Birthday Presents...

Now i have a question?? My birthday is at the end of this month so i told my girlfriend what i would like for my birthday. Now she was talking to me about the fact that she had no idea what to get me. I was like hello i told you what you could get. she said that is last resort option.. that there would be no surprise in the presents if she got me what i said i would like.. what is better the surprise or getting the person what the want and will use... i just don't get it... anyone got a thought on this one...
