Seems like a good premise - send humans back in time to start over on Earth.
Just one question though: if they're going back to the age of dinosaurs, something wiped those guys out, and would wipe out humans as well. How will they deal with that?

It's unsustainably expensive to produce. So unless it becomes the #1 drama on TV and stays there, it's not getting beyond the first 2 seasons.

Nah, the ratings will be high enough, because they can stick it after Idol and give it a boost, and it will probably last a while. But, even if it pulls House ratings, it will not be profitable, unless they do the effects on the cheap and don't pay actors squat. Which might be possible - as soon as someone asks for a raise, they get tragically eaten by a raptor.

Unless the show spans millions of years, why would the destruction of the dinosaurs even come up? Like that colony may well end up wiped out in their future, but we wouldn't necessarily see it. Could make for an interesting series finale, I suppose.

Its a different time line....I think the daughter said just one line about they wouldn't have been able to go back and start over unless they first knew that the probe that went through the time rift landed in a place that wasn't the same timeline, because then doing anything in the past could have major implications. Which, I guess also explains why they're not worried about the meteor crashing to earth. different timeline....soooo no meteor perhaps maybe? They might still just be winging it, or maybe they have.....meteor guns. hahaha. I hope they have fucking meteor guns....that would just be the most amazingly goofy sci-fi thing ever.
so, I enjoyed the episode for the most part. Similar frustrations to watching Falling Skies with the douche bag kid, the smarter than she should be middle age daughter....there is a similarly annoying family dynamic. The dinosaurs looked crappy for the most part. General Taylor is the best part of the show so far, but its set up to seem like he's going to be the bad guy. It was really stupid watching the kids go out into the jungle without any weapons whatsoever. Jungles are fucking dangerous now......there's has all the shit our jungles have and dinosaurs. So, no.....lets not bring guns or anything in case some shit goes down. fucking smart. It was annoying not finding out what happened to that panikcy pete theresa that got mauled too....unless there was a one off line that i missed.

So I was in a shit mood and decided to really savor the awfulness of this show and watch the pilot. This thing blows so much chimp.
I guarantee the group of apparently evil rebels will turn out to be the good guys. This is determined with this simple formula from Modern Screenwriting 101:
White males with guns: Bad Guys
Multi-cultural group with lots of dreadlocks: Good Guys
Here's a rule I noticed for this show:
Show humans getting chewed up and disemboweled, but never ever ever show a dinosaur being harmed. Humans can fire hundreds of rounds at dinosaurs, but the only weapon allowed to strike them is the cuddly sonic weapon which doesn't harm them. If anything other than a human is wounded, we will lose a large portion of the demo because people want to fight animal cruelty and stuff.
And of course, as has been mentioned already, the CGI would have been the shit in 2005.

I finally saw the second episode and it wasn't much better. Some good stuff with the Jim (the dad) and Commander Taylor, and even Jim calling out that smarmy doctor for going after his wife will make good scenes here on out. I bet that doctor guy gets eaten.
But the family stuff is just awful.
I get have to establish the family dynamic but it's just so boring and predictable. Hopefully they get more into the Sixers storyline fast. And I hope they get into that alternate timeline stream more, because even it's a parallel world, but close to the one they left behind, there could be some dramatic differences as well on the planet, as well as just the same likelihood that there are some giant asteroids buzzing around 85 million years ago.
They brought crappy SUVs back with them... why not some helicopters or jets? Get a good look around the area.

I want to like this show, and I do if only for Taylor and finding out more about him and how he started Terra Nova and now, as we learned, who he pissed off in 2149. Shouldn't Terra Nova have taken care of all of these outside issues before allowing more pilgrimages to come through?
As important as that little runaway girl was last night, we'll never see her on the show again, not even as a background character playing with her brother. That's one thing I hate about most TV shows, when they introduce a new character and have their arc resolved in one show. It would be nice if the Shannon's would check in on her, make sure she's enjoying her new family.

Last week's episode was a great reveal as to what was going on with Taylor and the Sixers. A lot of questions were answered.
I was hoping it was a little bit more complex - like maybe that skeleton under Prodigal Tree was from a human that was already in Terra Nova - but it's a pretty straight forward plot of the richer trying to get richer and plunder the young Earth of resources.
The again... Taylor can't be completely trusted so I'm sure some of what he told Jim will turn out to be untrue.
At least it's gotten somewhat interesting.
And I could have sworn the spy was going to be Jim's daughter's boyfriend who is one of the Terra Nova troops. I guess they never found where that dragonfly was going - maybe it could still be him.

So Taylor little excursion with Mira pretty much solidified the arch to the story. Taylor wants to stop the future from using Terra Nova as a resource and continue the reboot of the human race.
That kinda makes him... a good guy. For now. I was kinda hoping he would be a little more sinister and have some kind of ulterior motive.
So it seems to be your basic "protect the colony" story, and the Sixers really are just bad guys.
The whole thing with Skye as the spy... Meh. That's typical too.
There are still a few episodes left. I hope it gets a bit more interesting than these story arcs.

It's gotten better, just not a deep enough storyline for me. Then again, there are only 2 episodes left. So I'd imagine they would speed up the story, throw in a twist, and maybe step up the visual effects on some bad ass dinos.
Because the dinosaur in the last episode that came out at the end, looked like something from a Saturday morning cartoon. But the two Taylor and Mira where fighting in the woods were better looking - because they were in the dark.
So I'm sticking with it for the last two episodes.

Everyone caught up?
Next week is the two hour finale.
And it seems the overall story arc is as shallow as I fear it to be.
Taylor is a good guy, his son and the sixers actually are bad guys, and soon Taylor and his small army with a town full of scientists are going to be fighting for Terra Nova.
They'll be outgunned, outnumbered, and of course, will win... somehow.
No deep mystery here.
Which leads me to predict something for next week: Taylor will be killed off.
Which will leave Jim as the leader of Terra Nova.
They better throw in some big twist, because a series about one group of people trying to take over another group of people will get old fast, with or without crappy looking dinosaurs.

Someone big is going to have to go down. I think it will be Taylor's son though, and we'll still have to plod through a basic good vs. evil....technology vs. determination kind of story. Taylor's son will get betrayed by the people he is working for though and either die or get seriously wounded....Taylor will find him and bring him back to Terra Nova where....and this will super cheesy....."as his son's wounds heal so do the emotional wounds between father and son". The sixers, also betrayed by who hired them, will also join Terra Nova and have your basic strained relationship as they put aside their differences maaaaaaaaannnnn and fight against the real enemy FROM THE FUTURE!!!!

yea, none of it would be very entertaining, but like I've said for a few weeks now....I'm happy that the show has had some better episodes towards the end of the season here, but even though I'm hooked on the show, I'll be just as entertained to see how terrible this whole thing could go.

It might end up that they let her go, and Taylor's mole is really on the Sixers side.

I thought it was a pretty good season finale. Plenty of action. If only the whole show had been like this all season I'd have like'd it. As it stands I wouldn't care if it comes back for season 2 or not. My biggest complaint with the finale was:
None of the main villains died. At the very least the son should have died in the end. I feel like that character went as far as he can go and stay interesting

I guess the bomb went off before it got back through. It's safe to assume that anyway.
I really thought this last episode was fantastic. I was confused why the hell they would leave Skye with Lucas, but other than that this was without a doubt the best episode of the season and possibly one of the best season 1 finales of any sci-fi show this year. I thought it was really really good....sure, none of the main villains died, but the whole camp was destroyed, along with the link to the future. Some pretty heavy consequences that can be played off of in season 2. Sixer leader lady is pissed, Lucas must be furious, Taylor now knows there is no hope to make amends with his son. This show really came into its own late in the season and finished with a great episode and I'm definitely all in for season 2.

Now THAT was an episode I was waiting for. The fact that they had Jim almost blown up and Terra Nova practically burned to the ground in the first 10 minutes was a great surprise. I did not expect they would lose so quickly.
I liked the way they turned it around too... and I finally accepted Taylor's son as a mental whack-job and perfect as a bad guy... and it looks we can see him next season too, even if that was a bit predictable.
I was pissed they killed off Wash though. She was hot, and I liked her character. But she got replaced right away with that other soldier who we had no idea was around until this episode. Oh well.
And the end, with what they found in the storage bin. THAT is another aspect to the show I've been waiting for. A mystery about Terra Nova itself. Now they've opened the door for what I was hoping for when they found that skeleton... that people had been there before they built Terra Nova.
and i think that old ships masthead is going to make the bad lands connected to the bermuda triangle somehow
That's a great call!!! The rip in time has been opening at random places throughout Earth's history, and people and who knows what else, have fell through it before.
I was on the fence for a while with this show, but this finale sold it for me. I'll look forward to season 2.

OK - I am going to try season 2.
Do I really need to watch all of season 1 or can someone give me the basics. Terra Nova vs the 6ers, writing on rocks, and various fights, battles with Dino's that they just shoot sonic waves at (but let stay alive to try to kill them another day) and cheezy family scenes of the little girl, teen sis that is horny and the pissed off teen son.
Anything I have missed?

finally caught up with the final few episodes. loved that they took it in a new direction. really though season two was going to be about trying to regain control of the compound, surprised it went over so quickly. and the businessman bad guy died, although none of the military figures did. the whole badlands shit at the end sets up season two nicely. was really bothered by the predictable/cliche run for the portal by shannon. come on, he outran a fucking t-rex?! also, even if the t-rex made it back, it would show up randomly within a 3 mile radius. i really expected them to go full-out cliche and have it show up right where the bad guys were and have it go to town on them. at least they didn't do that.
