"AMC is bringing 'Airplane!' back to theatres? Surely you can't be serious". "Oh I'm serious... and don't call me Shirley".
Yes it's true folks, the 1980 classic is making a return to select AMC Theatres for two special screenings! "AIRPLANE!" will be boarding exclusively at AMC Theatres Saturday, January 29th at 12:30pm and on Tuesday, February 1st at 7:00pm.
These screenings will be held in no less than 150 theatres across 41 markets and those who attend one of these fantastic screenings will receive a special full sized commemorative "Airplane!" poster while supplies last.
Check the link for participating theaters, http://www.amctheatres.com/airplane/

They did this with "Back to the Future" a couple of months ago and the response was better than expected. I went to it, it was great.
I like seeing these now classic films in the theater. I hope there will be more in the future, like "Animal House", "Jaws" and "The Poseidon Adventure".

When I saw bttf they announced a few other re-releases. It seems like it's an ongoing thing. They probably have a schedule somewhere.
There is one of those "drafthouse" types of theaters near me. In the summer, they run a classic movie every monday night. Last year they ran The Godfather, The Godfather II, Goodfellas, Donnie Brasco, and a couple others that I can't recall. A couple years ago we saw the original Jaws
It's good to sit down with a cold beer and some nice greasy food.

I think it's a cool concept.
I haven't been to one of these theatrical re-releases but, I imagine that the crowd is really in to it.
Everybody has seen the film, and they're obviously fans of the films. I'd guess there's a bit of a Rocky Horror energy to the whole thing.
When they re-release the Rocky movies... my buddies and I will definitely be there.

ugg they are only showing it in 3 places in Orlando one of them is in Disney the other Universal City Walk and the other is a shitty theater in Altamonte Springs. Not worth dealing with either of the theme parks for this and most of the non tourists will head to Altamonte Springs to see it.

Airplane is hysterical. Id love to see it on the big screen. My favorite thing theaters are doin now is Rifftrax. They're the guys who used to do Mystery Science Theatre but they do live shows were they make fun of old bad movies and broadcast it live to a bunch of theaters.

At the Back to the Future showing that I went to, the theater was full except for some seats right in front of the screen. Other than some kids that were there, I would agree that everyone had probably seen it several times before. Yet the people laughed at Doc's facial expressions, cheered when George knocked out Biff and applauded at the end.

The Rocky Horror midnight showings that I went to back when they were popular were a whole other world. People dressed in character would stand in front of the audience and act out the movie as it was playing. Audience members would bring water pistols (for the rain), throw toilet paper (for the "Great Scott" line), throw pieces of burnt bread (for the toast) and throw rice (for the wedding). You didn't want to sit in the front (or have to clean it out the next day, I'm sure). Of course, there were massive quantities of alcohol involved (and who knows what some of the audience was on).
I also went to a midnight showing of Dawn of the Dead. Again, massive quantities of alcohol, girls screaming in the audience, bottles rolling down the aisles (you had to watch where you stepped when you left). Today you would be arrested.

My local indie theater does first friday (and occasionally third friday as well) fright nights, saturday matinee is a family feature and sunday matinee is part of a film series. This month it's Preston Sturgess. It's pretty great.
