I am amazed that there hasnt been any reports showing "sit ins" or picketing over this. Where is the college groups that raise hell over the smallest issues?

I agree that the smoking bans are bullshit, but are you really comparing this to the civil rights movement?

why would anyone who doesn't smoke champion this? smokers think they are entitled to smoke wherever and throw their trashed butts anywhere regardless of anyone else. fuck them, good for this village. id vote for non smoking beaches here in florida tomorrow.

So smokers can continue to be heavily taxed for buying cigarettes, bur are restricted from smoking them inside -- and now outside?

Gotcha.

Yeah, looks like we are leaning more toward Prohibition of Smoking everyday!

When it comes to the outside, THEY ARE.

bullshit. not when you see nothing butt cigarette butts everywhere on the ground. if they gave a shit about the people or environment around them they would get some sympathy.

I'm a smoker and I'm with you on that. But I'm also guilty especially when there are no trash cans around.

What's wrong with people - If non-smokers are not directly exposed to others smoke outside, why do they have to ban all of smoking?
I might be off base but it makes me think that we are over libralizing our society.

i assume you meant why wouldn't

I don't smoke. i never smoked and the smell makes me ill, but i abhor little rules like this. i think you missed the point of the thread, the slipper slope. where does it end? how far out do the push the smokers, and who's next on the chopping block?

Fixed it for you (anyone who's been to Great Neck knows there are no black people there, only chosen ones).

I meant exactly what I posted. im for personal liberty as long as it doesn't infringe on others. As I have already pointed out cigarette butts littered everywhere impacts non-smokers negatively.

Why???

(I'm a big time smoker myself!!!)

Because its a legal activity that doesnt impare your judgement. Like drinking a soda. When youre walking on the street or out in public theres no reason it shouldnt be allowed. This is just another step on the way to smoking prohibition. And it blows. (And I very rarely smoke).

bullshit. not when you see nothing butt cigarette butts everywhere on the ground. if they gave a shit about the people or environment around them they would get some sympathy.

Well see then youre actual beef is the littering, not the smoking. If smokers extinguished all their cigarette buts in those portable ashcans or threw them in trashcans I suppose you would have no problem with their act of actually smoking the cigarette?

Do you think that all smokers don't care about litter? Cigarette butts, as well as any litter, impacts non-litterers negatively. I also doubt that the smoking ban was enacted because of litter.

Well, there's really no reason why it SHOULD or HAS to be legal!!!

Though I hope it stays that way!!! I already have a hard enough time of it as is taking my smoke breaks here!!!

It's tough, though!!! I can't kick it, but I get how much it bugs and effects people and the environment around me!!!

Yes and no. I don't care if a junky spikes his vein, I am a liberal and for personal liberty. I do however mind when I take my dog for a walk in Daytona Beach and come across 1/2 dozen needles in a 5 block radius. I see WAY more cigarette butts on that walk. That crosses the line of just litter.

Im just pointing out the reason why non-smokers wouldn't take up this cause. Isn't that what Ron says in his bullshit slippery slope argument? No one else cares because the smokers don't show empathy for the non-smokers. And the ones that do have a modicum of respect like AJ, do it SOME of the time.

Theres no reason why a smoker that smokes outside and uses a trashcan should bug or effect a non-smoker whatsoever. You dont own the public air. These people ever heard of sharing fucking space???

Us smokers are demanding to do more with and to this public space (the air) than non-smokers!!!!

Crispy's right: too many smokers let their addictions speak for them and act like this is something they need to be allowed to do!
