Lets get the playoff conversations started.

Who do you like and whats your SB match up as of now?

Im sticking with my preseason picks of GB for the NFC and the AFC its a toss up between Indy and Balt. I do think it will be very tough to beat NE at home but Im sticking with my choices.

Now onto this week

If you are betting take Sea at home, they are getting 10 1/2, buy it up to 11. I have a funny feeling Sea might win outright but getting 10 1/2 at home up there in Sea should be a great bet. NO has never won a road playoff game and NO is going from a dome to outside in Sea which is a tough stadium to play at. They are built for a dome and I think they get caught!

I think they win, but don't cover that line. It'll be a game very much like the Falcons game from a couple of weeks ago. Saints 21, Seahawks 17, something along those lines.

I dont see anyone stopping New England. I think Philly beats Green Bay, then if they can survive playing in the swamp that will be Soldier Field, come into Atlanta and fly around that turf like jets.

So Philly vs New England is my pick.

For some reason I can't see the Falcons going all the way, yet the NFC is WIDE open.

NE will easily be the big pick, but their D is still young as hell and inexperienced in the playoffs. They can be beat but are surely the favorite due to Brady and BB.

I also don't see Philly making it, as most teams in the NFC playoff picture won't have a huge letdown like the Giants if up. Overall, the Eagles have NOT looked good for a while minus that 7+ minutes against the Giants. So I don't see them making it through 3 rounds to get there either.

I have to think this over before I make my picks.

This is such bullshit it's comical. By acting up do you mean the injury he had surgery on in the offseason and had to miss camp for too? I'm not even a fan now of course but this is garbage to me. Yah, the guy battles through every regular season and then can't handle the pain in the playoffs and is afraid. Sure.

He played NE twice in the postseason:

2006 LT 23 carries for 123 yards and 5.35 YPC with 2 TDs 2 catches / 64 yards
2007 LT got reinjured the week before and was never the same. It's what happens in the NFL when you get to that 30 mark.

I think he means it's still in the realm of possibility. He does have an SB, multiple pro-bowls, the biggest SB upset of all-time and the Manning name to carry him. Do you really think it's such a long shot? Come on, Namath got in so it's not even that far fetched. Hell Eli is about to surpass all of Namath's offensive stats in only his 8th year in the league (not all starting fully). And Justice take note here, the one stat that differs in a HUGE way is interceptions.

Eli's td/int ratio 156/113

It's not an easy thing to do."

Hey Tom...you didn't DO YOUR PART.

out of the 5 team left in the AFC playoffs the only team left that can beat the 3 teams I dont want to win will be Balt. Nothing against KC but I dont think they could beat NE or Pitt to get into the SB.

Their record isn't even as good as it looks, as is the case for the past few years in that division, only it's worse this year. They play in the ultra shitty AFC West, we all know that. However, their cross-conference division foe this year was, you guessed it, the all powerful NFC WEST!

KC is fucked, but still at least won the shit division unlike my or Sailor's shitty teams.

if eli walks to the huddle too slow he yells

etc etc etc

id say that its prob about 70 -30 amongst giants fans who hate eli

he won a fucking super bowl for us, i was 9 and 13 when they won the first 2 and couldnt really enjoy it as i could now as an adult

doesnt get the ball close enough to tyree to make that incredible catch .... game over we lose

See that's where I think you're wrong.

9-7 and JUST missing the playoffs, or getting in and not getting past the 1st round doesn't justify hanging on to your QB.

You need someone who makes the playoffs and WINS those games.

9-7 and close to the playoffs most of the time? Sorry...time to move to greener pastures.

his overthrows.
His constant throwing into double and triple coverage.
not being able to recover from bad mistakes. (mentally)
still has problems with clock control (not all the time..he HAS gotten better with that, I will admit)
his accuracy SUCKS.

A perfect moment to emphasize what i am talking about was that shovel-pass right to the Titans player this season.

Jesus. There was one from tonight's Jets game.

Come on Tom, there pretty much isn't a guy on NY that protected the ball this year, but I'd easily say Eli should have finished with a 30+/under 20 int year. In the first week or two alone I've never seen so many balls off wr hands, some that would have been TDs that turned into ints. This can have some effect on a qb moving forward too, so remember how this year started too. He may not have been his best this year, that I'll give you, but he did get over the TripleSkeet/Kolb line of 30 tds and that's actually pretty solid. You act like he's the issue. No, he's the guy you make slight adjustments to the his game and more precisely/importantly his decisions. Saying a guy is awful when he's at least better than half the NFL qbs you're insane.

Quick question....do NFL players make bonus' for making the playoffs/winning playoff games like they would for making or winning the Super Bowl

For the playoffs the winners and losers get the same amount (except the wild-cards get slightly less in the wildcard round). It goes up for the conference championship but still the same for winning or losing (http://www.csnbaltimore.com/pages/landing?blockID=382717&tagID=476)

This year, each Wild Card team will get $21,000 per man for a division-winning team and $19,000 for a non-division winner. When the Ravens earned their first Wild Card playoff spot 10 years ago, they got $12,500.

Participants in the divisional round will get $21,000 per man, up slightly from the $16,000 the Ravens got in 2000 when they played the Tennessee Titans and beat them in one of the most talked-about games in Ravens history.

The reward for being a conference championship game squad is $38,000 per player, up from the $34,500 the Ravens and Oakland Raiders each received for playing in the AFC title game in 2000.

Finally, when it comes to the Super Bowl, that’s where things have really changed. In the first Super Bowl, the winning Green Bay Packers got $15,000 a man while the 2000 Ravens got $58,000 apiece. This year, the Super Bowl champions will get $83,000 and the losers get 42,000 for a second consecutive year.

The Pro Bowl might not be high on most fans’ or players’ priority lists, but the players that do bother to show up get $45,000 each for the win and $22,500 apiece for the players on the losing conference all-star team.

Tom, being an NFL QB doesn't mean you get better every fucking year. In fact, sometimes stats may dip a little or more when teams key on you bc you are the main weapon or they get a better feel how to attack your style of play. It's like in golf for a qb as well, many slight variations on your throwing motion can have a huge effect on the resulting throw. Add in the fact that all qb's are constantly adjusting to new WRs, plays, offensive approaches and of course the defensive approach against them it's impossible to claim he should continually be improving his stats. Hell, his 30+ TDs is pretty damn good and at the top of any year. His ints are up this year, but you don't think his wrs had anything to do with it? And he still finished 10-6 and had a HUGE game against the Eagles. A game he should have won if your vaunted d came through at all in the 4th. Your logic hurts my fucking head sooooo much.

We have 2 or more teams in every sport so there naturally because a hate because 1 usually wins more often and also 1 is usually the town darling that gets all the press even when the other team might be doing better that year!

You live in this area and really dont get that?

Most fans aren't like the mouthbreathers that call into WFAN. Most fans don't care about press coverage or all this shit you are talking about. They care about their team and who their team plays against. And no offense, a Dolphins fan talking about the relationship[ between the Jets fans and Giants fans when you actually have Jets and Giants fans telling you it's not like that is pretty funny.

Fucking love The Onion.

NDIANAPOLIS—Indianapolis Colts head coach Jim Caldwell told reporters Thursday he has decided to start 13-year veteran and 11-time Pro Bowler Peyton Manning at quarterback for Saturday's wild-card matchup against the New York Jets. "After much deliberation, we believe that Peyton's four MVP awards and one Super Bowl ring give us the best chance to win," said Caldwell, adding that Manning being a first-ballot Hall of Famer "factored somewhat" into his final decision. "Curtis Painter is a promising young player, but at the end of the day, you have to ask yourself, 'Do I go with the guy who has 28 career pass attempts or with the fastest player in NFL history to reach 1,000 completions, 2,000 completions, 3,000 completions, and 4,000 completions?'" Caldwell concluded the press conference by stressing that it's "always week-to-week," but Manning would likely be the frontrunner to start a divisional matchup should he lead the team to victory Saturday.

I can see some sports talk radio douchebag with 5 hours of programming to fill blurting out that Curtis Painter should be the starter in Indy so a bunch of outraged rubes will call up to argue with him. (cough cough *Colin Cowherd* cough cough)

I don't want to be the "On topic" nazi guy here , but can we keep this thread for discussion of the playoffs ? I know you guys aren't terribly far off topic but there are other threads for this Eli/Giants talk.

You also never played any sports. Its not a knock on you but you dont have that mentality that playing competitive sports through out your entire life all year round brings!

I played sports. The team in the next town over was not in our division. We never played them. We never cared about them. We cared about the teams we played.

On a college level, nobody from Monmouth cares about Rutgers and vice versa. Maybe you can make a comparison with Seton Hall and Rutgers, but there's not even any animosity there either!

yea cause they are both fuckin terrible. who would give a fuck if there was? And how do you know say the Rutgers basketball team has ZERO animosity toward Seton Hall's basketball team? You cant know things like this but you fuckin say it anyway as if its fact.

I dont believe you played sports, or at least played boys or mens sports, if you are honestly saying your team didnt get happy if your rival town got its ass kicked, or the other school in your town. Wayne Hills and Wayne Valley are in seperate divisions, but you can bet your ass they root for each other to lose.

Shit, you dont think everyone at Ohio State loves when Michigan loses to anyone? Yea they are big rivals but Ohio State and Cincy arent, but i bet they love when Cincy loses. You wanna be the best in your area. If you dont play the other team, then what they do against other teams does matter. They need to suck so you know you are superior. Thats nature.

Thats why I dont get these jerkoffs who like the Giants or Jets and root for the other. Or like the Yankees or Mets and root for the other. FUCK THAT SHIT. They are just as much enemies as anyone else is cause they are another team you want to be better than.

Especially if its a team like the fuckin Jets who are just scumbags and everyone hates them
