Unseen desktop files

When I go to attach files to an email from my desktop I see text files that can be attached but they dont show up on the desktop. What are they and how can I delete them

Hey Johnny it would help to know what operating system you are rocking. In Windows Vista you can go to Tools>Folder Options>View and check the box for Show Hidden Files. I would caution deleting random files just because, though, it could screw things up royally!
