The Coen Bros are probably about the only ones left on my list, though even they've been spotty lately: The Ladykillers was just awful, and I've pretty much decided the reason I don't get "A Serious Man" is because there's nothing to get, it's just intentionally obtuse with no actual point.

Scorsese's been crossed off my list for quite a while.

I think A Serious Man is great. Religious mystery is a big part of that movie, so you're right that it's intentionally obtuse but I disagree that theres no actual point.

I agree on Nolan, except for the comic book movies, even though they're better than most. I can't begrudge the guy going for the big paycheck, but I won't run out to watch them.

Fincher and Aronofsky have probably suprised me most than all the other directors mentioned here. Coen Brothers too.

Years ago I would have said Wes Anderson, but his last couple films have just been lacking a new spark.
