Not sure if I put this in the right forum.

Lately the picture quality on Netflix streaming sucks. Instead of the movie or TV show showing smoothly, it becomes very "choppy" and seems to stick on every frame. (Not sure if that makes sense.)

It doesn't happen with Hulu or even youtube. I wouldn't be surprised if it had something with Comcast.

I know sometimes when I stream via my xbox360 the same will happen if I am using lots of bandwidth other places. What I usually do is start a movie or show then pause it walk away for a few mins and let it buffer and it normally works.

how are you streaming?

i had the same problem the other day, but then i realized that the network cable on my laptop was disconnected, and i was streaming through the wireless.

haven't had any problems otherwise, and i stream way more than i watch dvd's.

I always watch Netflix with my laptop wirelessly. Sometimes it is shit, other times it is good, and very rarely is it fantastic. As Space Edge said, allowing it to buffer for a bit can help. It does seem like Netflix limits how much it will buffer (or maybe it's some memory setting on my comp).

Netflix has had some problems lately with Comcast (http://mediadecoder.blogs.nytimes.com/2010/11/29/netflix-partner-says-comcast-toll-threatens-online-video-delivery/)

What it boils down to is that Comcast feels Netflix should pay more for the amount of bandwidth it's using, while Netflix counters that it's not their problem.

The scuffle between the two started on Nov. 19, when Level 3 says Comcast demanded a recurring fee to “transmit Internet online movies and other content to Comcast’s customers who request such content.”

Three days later, under pressure from Comcast, “Level 3 agreed to the terms, under protest, in order to ensure customers did not experience any disruptions,” Mr. Stortz said.

Mr. Stortz did not cite Netflix in his statement. But just a week before Comcast’s demand, Level 3 announced a multiyear deal to support Netflix’s rapidly growing streaming service.

In short, fuck you Comcast.

I'm wondering if this has something to do with my issue. I recently purchased a DVD player with streaming, and subscribed to Netflix. If I pause a movie, it has the same choppy problem that Fuzzy talked about. I can't get it to work right again, unless I turn the player off, and restart it. I have Comcast. Does this sound like a hardware issue, or is it more related to the Comcast thing that Mudo posted about?

I don't think it's a comcast thing. I have comcast and the only time I have problems which doesn't happen very often is when I am using bandwidth other places while watch netflix.

Actually, I unplugged the DVD player and plugged it back in. It seems to have fixed the problem.

Do you have to hook it up to the steam donkey to get power down there?

No he just has to be sure to turn off the still when he wants to watch a movie.
