When the weather gets cold I crave eastern european food-- pierogies, stuffed cabbage, kielbasa and especially kasha varnishkes.
I cook up some kasha (buckwheat groats) and bow tie pasta. I sautee some onion. I mix the kasha, pasta, and onions with a slightly diluted can of cream of mushroom soup. DELICIOUS!!!

Chicken and dumplings. Snip some chives or green onions into the dumpling batter.

I've had a real hankering for keibasa lately.
I make beef stew a lot when its cold. An absolute must is to buy a chuck roast and cut it up for the meat, so its always tender.
Eaten with the best garlic bread: spread unsalted butter on your bread of choice, sprinkle with sea salt, garlic powder and rosemary, then broil.

It sounds to me that all these "comfort" foods are from the Master Race countries?

Matzoh ball soup from the Edison cafe on 46th street. Although I have made homemade beef stew the past two weeks. Chili will probably be next week's project.
