I've been wanting to up-grade to an xbox 360 or a ps3 , but with 3 kids the brand new ones seem just out of my price range, so i've been looking at the refurbished ones on gamestops web site. they are at a okay price, my question is, are they worth it ?

I have never had a problem with refurbished anything. I would say 1/2 of my electronic purchases are refurbs and they work as good as new and usually look new too!

With any refurb, I'd just ask a couple of questions: who actually did the refurbishing, and what kind of return policy and warranty is there?

If there's a good return policy and warranty on it, I say go for it. Refurbs are usually a very good deal on electronics.

I too have bought quite a few things refurbed, like this computer I'm typing this on now.

Best Buy has a Xbox 360 with a Kinect for only $199 that might only be a couple of bucks more then a refurb console.

Buying a floor model / demo is a way to save also.

I've bought plenty of refurbishment stuff and the only problem I've had was a hard drive failure after 1 year on a laptop we got from woot.

We got the squaretrade warranty on the laptop (about $30 for 2 years) and they sent us a check to cover the hard drive.

Look into squaretrade if you want to extend the warranty on refurbished electronics.

The only problem there is that those are often as-is, with no returns, and little, if any, warranty time left on them. Gotta be careful there.

I agree. I would rather get a refurb because they are usually tested thoroughly buy the manufacturer to meet new like standards. While floor models come as is and have been touched by thousands of people.

I bought 3 things and only one had trouble, that was something that could be worked around.

I have a refurbed PS3.

but at the price of a refurbed ps3 you can get a new xbox.

so if you looking to save why look at ps3, even though it a better system

I bought a refurbed 360 online and it was fucked right outta the box. Some kind of issue with green dots everywhere. I had to return it and wait like 3 weeks for a refund. It sucked and I didn't really save that much.

I don't think the Xbox or PS3 we have are the originals anyways, I think both were sent back for repairs at some point. Anyway, I'm sure the PS3 is different because it was returned for warranty work right after I bought it and it came back with a newer looking case. Get a PSP and lock the bathroom door.

either get a really long ethernet cable or get the wifi adapter. Then if you want play games online you have to subscribe to XBL. You can do it monthly, every 3 months or yearly. You can buy it right through the Xbox or get it on amazon or bestbuy.

You need this... I have heard of people using cheaper wireless adapters, but I was never able to get it to work. I paid $80 for this shit too. My 360 is hardwired now and wireless performance is much better.

OK one (http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Wireless-Network-Adapter-Networks/dp/B000B6MLV4)she is correct. always hardwire your gaming systems!

definitely get the M$ 360 wireless adapter if you decide to go wireless

the one she posted a link to will do the job but you will have ornery 12 YOs screaming "LAGGER!!!!!" at you. if you have $100 burning a hole in your pocket go with the better one (http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Wireless-Network-Adapter-Networks/dp/B002RS7NB2/ref=dp_cp_ob_vg_title_1).

What games did you get? Did you get Xbox live gold so you can play online ? You jumped in late so you have lots of good games to catch up on. You should definitely check out Gamefly (http://gamefly.tellapal.com/a/clk/bYDw2)

It's worth getting games through Gamefly (http://gamefly.tellapal.com/a/clk/bYDw2) since you can try them then if you want you can but it or just play it beat it and return it for a new game. It sucks spending $60 bucks on a game then realzing it sucks. And whatever you do stay far away from Gamestop they suck compared to Gamefly, BestBuy and Amazon
