I was watching Superman 2 and Lois Lane figured out that Clark Kent was Superman when she shot him with a gun (She later said it was blanks) But I recall her figuring it out when Clark tripped and fell in a fire place. When she looked at his hand she saw he was not injured. So what the heck happened? Did they change it and if so when

you're obviously watching the "Richard Donner Version" of Superman 2.

That "Donner Cut" really is the version that we were meant to see.
I enjoyed the theatrical version but... the new version is way better. It feels more like the first one (which was fantastic). The tone... the energy... etc.

It's easily available on Amazon.
It simply titled "Superman II: The Richard Donner cut"

The commentary track ALONE is worth the price of admission. The differences between the two versions are substantial. The opening scene (now a montage) is different, and sets a better pace for the movie. A bit less "slapstick".... more Brando .... and generally, it's just more like the first movie in terms of "seriousness".

To quote Bryan Singer.... "How the fuck do you cut Marlon Brando out of a movie?"
