Being the 2nd dumbest city in the country, this doesn't bode well for LA.

Funny you should mention that, the Skyline brothers did visual effects for this movie, and now there is talk of possible inpropriety.

Just once I would love to see a movie, video game, comic book, or book where aliens show up to Earth and we can kick their ass from the start instead of the inevitable using of a piece of their tech to defeat them

so something that's about 5-10 min long? aliens show up, people freak out a bit, but then we realize they're pussies, give them wedgies, and then they leave? good movie.

i mentioned skyline because it was so visually similar to me. perhaps then there is merit in those claims of impropriety.. :o

silly rabbit.

you wont see it. a people who have the tech it takes to cross galaxies would certainly bring some extraordinary weaponry with them. we primates with our clubs wouldnt have a chance, not even with this guy's help:

Also these idiots have the ability to traverse the galaxy but cant figure out a better tactic then just landing all at once?

I like that they incorporate the true Battle of Los Angeles in this trailer, which actually did happen.

"For years, there have been documented cases of UFO sightings around the world - Buenos Aires, Seoul, France, Germany, China. But in 2011, what were once just sightings will become a terrifying reality when Earth is attacked by unknown forces. As people everywhere watch the world's great cities fall, Los Angeles becomes the last stand for mankind in a battle no one expected. It's up to a Marine staff sergeant and his new platoon to draw a line in the sand as they take on an enemy unlike any they've ever encountered before."

Saw it over the weekend, and although it hasn't gotten the best reviews, I thought it was great.

Yes, it was basically a gritter Independence Day, but it's what that movie should have been. Once it gets going there is non-stop action and great effects. There was one stretch that dragged on too long, with the typical emotional speeches and military clichés, but I enjoyed the hell out of it.

Yeah it was fun to watch. Not an Oscar winning movie, but not a turd sandwich.

I hear statements like this all the time, but I never fully understand them... or agree with them.

Aliens wouldn't have to be amazingly advanced to travel here. Their technology wouldn't necessarily have to be all that mind-blowing. It would just have to be... "theirs".
Meaning... whatever they use as fuel might be unimaginably efficient (in comparison to ours). Millions upon millions of miles (lightyears... whatever) might be a short little jaunt for them.
In much the same way that driving across the street would be for us.... the distance of an entire galaxy might be a meaningless journey for them. Or their lifespan could be millions of OUR years.... and to THEM... the journey is very doable. Or whatever.

And who's to say that they would spend any of their time inventing weaponry? There's certainly no rulebook to this kind of thing. They really could simply devote their energy and time on things that aren't destructive.

We hear stories about viruses and animals that are brought here by being attached to cruise ships... or being hidden in furniture.... or produce... and other items.
What if a variety of lifeforms were simply living their lives on a meteor/asteroid that accidentally crashed into our earth. The lifeforms would just suddenly be here... and have to become acclimated... or takeover... or leave... or die... or whateve

Military Experts Weigh in on 'Battle: Los Angeles' (http://blog.moviefone.com/2011/03/11/military-experts-weigh-in-on-battle-los-angeles/)

At the Los Angeles press day for the film, Cinematical spoke to two military experts, Capt. Robert Salas, and Col. Charles Halt, both of whom experienced actual UFO encounters, and they offered their opinions about the film's authenticity. Additionally, the duo revealed a few details about how the government might respond should extraterrestrials descend upon the planet, and interestingly, what we might be able to learn from even fictional films about aliens should we encounter a real one in the future.
