Jon Miller and Joe Morgan's 21-year run on ESPN's "Sunday Night Baseball" is over.
Morgan's contract is expiring and he will not be renewed. Miller's contract is also expiring though he may remain at ESPN working the "Sunday Night Baseball" series and postseason baseball for ESPN Radio.
"Jon and Joe have contributed greatly to the success of 'Sunday Night Baseball' for the past 21 seasons," ESPN executive vice president Norby Williams said in a statement Monday. "Over the last two decades, Joe went from Hall of Fame player to one of his sport's top analysts and Jon's Hall of Fame voice and tremendous knowledge of the game have connected with baseball fans everywhere. We owe them our deepest thanks for an outstanding body of work."
Miller, the play-by-play voice, received the Baseball Hall of Fame's 2010 Ford C. Frick Award. Morgan, the color commentator, was a two-time National League MVP with the Cincinnati Reds. The second baseman was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1990.

So who becomes ESPN's A-Team on Sundays? I hate to say it, but I have a feeling Michael Kay will be involved somehow.

Is it fucking Christmas or something? Wade Phillips, Joe Morgan and Jon Miller all fired on the same day? Sweet.

Yeah that's exactly the problem. Everyone bitches about Joe Morgan (myself included) but no one can think of a better announcer. Every announcer out there is hated.

My nightmare is that Chris Berman just decides to do it himself.
Or that they hire John Sterling.
We might be missing Joe before this is over. Don't get too excited.

I think Dan Shulman will be doing the play by play

I sincerely doubt that the Yanks would give up 'The Voice of the N.Y. Yankees' John Sterling. He will most likely stay with the team until he dies or retires.

Good thing. Some games he called everthing got reverted back to race (his own) so much. That it made me turn off the game. He did tone this down later on. But I'd rather not have to hear crap like that.

Eh, not really. The Mets' radio and TV teams are a joy to listen to. That is the one thing I am jealous about Yankees vs. Mets - while we have to deal with Sterling, Waldman, and Kay, the Mets fans have Keith, Cohen, Darling, Rose, and Hagin.
Charley Steiner is an excellent baseball analyst, but I doubt they'll bring him back.
There are TONS of better announcers than Joe Morgan. But whoever gets put in for that gig will be a purely political appointment, which is why I think Michael Kay will be involved.
Oh happy day.

Two things I miss:
Mike Patrick on ESPN Sunday Night Football
Jon Miller on ESPN Sunday Night Baseball
Hate them if you will, but they are certainly comfort voices for me from watching these games every week when I was a kid.

Right, I don't have a problem with Jon Miller. It's strictly with Morgan.

I agree with you. I'm never sure if I'm being a Mets homer by loving our announce team, but they are really, really good and the Yankees announce team is AWFUL (especially on radio). I think there are plenty of good announcers out there. Joe Morgan is dull as shit.

I can live with Miller, he's not great but not terrible.
