View Full Version : I need a free copy of Microsoft Office products

Recently, my computer crashed and had to have everything wiped away. I lost my Office products (Excel, word etc) and I didnt order the computer with Office initially - got it from a friend long ago.

I have access to Office 2007 business upgrade but I need a basic Office program to install first to get the upgrade. Any ideas on where or how to get Office 2000 or newer for free?

Honestly, you might want to look into joining the Microsoft Developers Network. It's not that expensive, and you get to download pretty much all their software for "evaluation". Just pony up the $200 or so it costs for a year, which is cheaper than a lot of legit copies of Office, and download the absolutely loaded edition of Office 2010 and Windows 7, and its more than paid for itself.

The versions of the programs you download are absolutely the real thing. Now, of course, you do agree to only use them for purposes of "evaluation", and not for business reasons, but that's hard to determine what that means exactly. It's a good alternative to running out to some skeevy bittorrent site that loads your system down with malware, though.

There's a rush of activity out there trying to crack down on people illegally downloading things! Sounds like Microsoft is trying to horn in on the porn industry's attempt to stamp out pirating by using an obvious stooge like Country Bob to lure in hapless board members advertising their piracy! DON'T TAKE THE BAIT, MEXI!!!

So I found an extra $10,000 - you cant prove anything!

Maybe CountryBob's turning state's evidence by getting people to break the law.

Seems like entrapment to me.

I'd look into seeing if Microsoft is still doing the student discount for Office.

I got the loaded 2007 Office ( w/ Access, One Note and some other non-standards ) a few years ago for $85 ( retailed at almost $800 ) by using a college ID ( my wife's ).

Then you just need to secure a college email address.

What happened to your "old friend"?

She decided that I was a loser and moved on - happily married now with 2 kids. While I still dwell in total misery! At least she could have left the discs!

I think a Microsoft Technet subscription might be a little cheaper than MSDN. You get 10 licenses of every MS product to evaluate for whatever purpose you consider worth $280. MSDN lets you access the development tools like Visual Studio .NET, but Technet has everything else.

It's a shame my IT dept can't somehow hook me up - I know they could but are afraid because I work in HR....

I would think that if you are in HR they'd be MORE likely to hook you up so they would have something to hang over your head.

You'd think that but no dice. I keep asking different ones - let's see who will cave in.
I am a little nervous about taking BiggestMexi's advice (no offense) and getting what I need from a torrent site. I dont know much about peer to peer file sharing...
