CARLSBAD, Calif. -- Police say former NFL star linebacker Junior Seau told investigators he fell asleep before driving off a seaside cliff in the San Diego area.

Carlsbad police told the Los Angeles Times in a statement Monday night that "it is believed that Seau fell asleep at the wheel."

Police Lt. Kelly Cain told the North County Times newspaper that the lack of skid marks leading up to where Seau plunged off the cliff in his white Cadillac SUV was consistent with the idea that he fell asleep.

Seau's SUV landed close to the beach in Carlsbad on Monday morning, hours after the former All-Pro was arrested on suspicion of domestic violence.

He was hospitalized but escaped major injury.

yea I will believe "fell asleep at the wheel" like I believe Mel Gibson isn't batshit insane.
It's most likely he thought ' this isn't a good idea ' halfway down and when he got out without any major injuries (which was a miracle) he pulled the 'fell asleep' card to cover his ass.

yea its so insane to think someone could fall asleep at the wheel at 4am after being up all night with police. also, i dont know if you are familiar, but those roads have no guardrail. the cliff he went off was only about 15 feet from the road. i actually did drive it once for a few hours. but i was going on the fact the the pictures showed the road only lke 10-15 feet from the cliff, one spot just ahead on the road was 3 feet from the cliff, no guard rail. See, i went by photos of the scene to determine the scene. Works alot better that way
