Ambient music, a saturated and watered-down genre, still has a lot of good stuff.
Here are some of the artists that I enjoy putting on shuffle for the sleeping hours:
Robert Rich
Vidna Obmana
Steve Roach
Bill Laswell
Lull
Final
Pete Namlook
Tetso Inoue
Atom Heart
Death Cube K (Buckethead)

Do you want stuff on as you fall asleep? I used to play the cafe xm channel for that.

Now I have something called music choice on my tv setup. And light classical music fits the bill.

Black Moth Super Nova.
Also if your high. Same goes for Four Tet, though I imagine them to be more of a painkiller high. Teengirl Fantasy is also really good.
Some electronic music I've been into as of late.

I assume you mean music to chill to. Music to eventually fall asleep to. Music to just make you feel good if feeling good is your thing.:smoke:
If the aforementioned list is true for a suggested album to listen to at night, I have several actually:
* Hip Hug Her - Booker T and the MGs
* Nashville Skyline - Bob Dylan (No heady songs about protest or love lost. Just straight forward Bob and he sounds great on this album)
* Blackjack - Clarence 'Gatemouth' Brown (Gate was a favorite guitar player of mine and I saw him once----Damn what a performer)
* Meddle - Pink Floyd (I'm not a huge Floyd fan but this album is a standout for me and 'Fearless' in particular, is a great tune)
* Live at the Bijou - Grover Washington Jr.
* Troubadour - JJ Cale
* Friday Afternoon in the Universe - Medeski, Martin and Wood

If your going Meddle - Pink Floyd, might as well add Yes - Close to the edge.

I could play that cd front to back and fall asleep with a smile. It's also a GREAT value playing Welcome To The Machine in a chill bar's "jukebox".

I made it a habit to play Dogs from Animals everytime I went to this bar with some pretty douchey clientele.

There's an app now to connect to local pub's music boxes and you can just play it from home now and fuck with those people from afar! I do it to my team when I can't make the bar after hockey and when a few specific awful songs come on, they know it's me as I pull into my driveway to unload my gear! Fuck them for having the time to get a beer when I can't that night!

You just reminded me of a great old song by The The..."Dogs of Lust". Just a unique song from way back I liked a lot.
NSFW after the 3:06 mark.
The original "safe" MTV vid up to that point, after they show the extended vid that plays on the singer's face in the original. I remember 120 minutes getting in trouble playing this way back when.

Love it.
Most bars I go to seem to be on to the long song thing and exclude them from the machine. This bar (it was The Office) had the song and I delighted in playing it and having people mill around and wonder why this odd song wouldn't end.
