What is the green sword made out of? I only have shitty iron gear. I ran into a rough dungeon way down deep with one of those flaming monster generator boxes, but I literally die within a milisecond of entering the room because the bombzombies are thick. I lost 4 bars of gold in there, dammit.

He may be asking how to actually harvest the ore. If you destroy the block with a pick that is not of a sufficient level, you won't get the ore. For coal and iron, you need a stone pick or better, for gold, you need an iron pick or better, and for diamonds, I have no idea.

I was SRSLY lost in a cave for 3 minecraft days. Fucking ridiculous. I havent even seen half the level yet!

My new goal is a small tree farm on my floating house

Well I completed (Still needs a lot of glass) my heaven to hell tower. It's a large monolith with a spacious staircase wrapped around a 7x4 opening that goes from above the clouds all the way to the bedrock. I started using trees as wall material in the upper stories (Plant a tree on a dirt block in the wall at random spots and elevations, wait 2 days, trim off any foliage and wood that is protruding into the tower, then build the wall up to the tree. It leaves you with nice "tree mural" in your wall, and random green blobs on the outside of the tower). I haven't counted the stories yet, but I'd guess about 20. Each story is 6 blocks high. T connected this with a stone bridge to my mesa castle/farm.

At the base level, I went on a mining rampage. I find shit-tons of redstone, occasional coal or iron inclusions. I've found a total of 8 gold and 6 diamonds. Not enough. I can't sustain a diamond pick long enough to find diamonds for the next pick. What is the secret to finding diamonds?

Also, anyone had any luck with the powered mine carts? On a previous map, i attempted to have a minecart track that would take me from the depths to the surface. But I cannot conveniently make the powered cart work. You have to right click it while facing in the direction you want it to go in order to power it. The problem is that puts you behind the cart, not in the passenger cart in front of it. So I would send it flying up the tracks, chase it down until I was halfway to the surface, clumsily jump into the passenger cart, and then the powered cart would lag and bog down until it reached an incline more than a few tiles long, and then it would began rolling backwards, all the way to the bottom again.

I'm trying to find an automated way to return to the surface. I have water elevators, but those only go down, and you can drown yourself unless you take a breather on the way down.

Sounds like you spent a long time building. I spend more time in stupid crazy large caverns that I can't find my way it out of. And thee is still a lot of the level I haven't seen!

I dug basically to the bottom where that unbreakable rock is. I found a ton of sit down there. Then I ended up cavern hopping until I got to the point I wanted out so instead of doing the impossible and retrace my steps I just started digging up, found another huge cavern off to the side of my tunnel and actually came up about twenty blocks from my giant inca pyrimid I'm building in the middle of all my storage chests and shit. Awesome. Still can't find enough gold though. I only have about 40 bricks.

There's a wikipedia (http://minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Crafting) for crafting that helped me out. It shows how to make shit and what to do once you mine gold and iron. I've been checking out forums about it to pick up tips.

I've been just playing solo. I guess there's a multiplayer but I know crap about it.

Moe, the most important thing at the beginning is building a safe zone. You will want to have an entrance to a mining area, which can easily be sealed up with dirt blocks, as will your front door. You need to get a good stack of wood during the day time, which can be harvested with your hands. Once you have wood, you can make sticks, which are needed to craft torches and picks, both completely necessary tools. Make a wooden pick, and you will be able to harvest stone, and then you can make stone picks, which last much longer. Next you will need to get a nice supply of coal, so that you can make torches. Now, look for an ideal place to make a compound. You can make a treehouse, but eventually you will want to extend your perimeter to the ground so that you can get underground for mining at any time of the day. The bad guys spawn at night, and in dark places. Torches prevent them from spawning. You want to place torches all throughout your house/compound and mines so that they stay free of zombies. Once you've got this pretty well established, it's just a matter of mining and building your dream anti-zombie compound. Towers are fun. Cooking sand blocks in a furnace will give you transparent glass blocks, which can be used for windows, walls, even walkways over a non protected area so that you can taunt the zombies from safety.

Also one thing i might due and craft a BUNCH of signs for caverns.

Some caverns are so big youll get lost like no other. So you can put signs down.

So yeah make a lot of torches, 128+ would be ideal. When you here creepy music down in caverns that means your near a dungeon.....although i thinks it works off a radius things, so it could be anywhere. So far when i see mossy cobblestone I know there is a Dungeon. The mossy blocks means there is a monster spawner (which needs to be destroyed) and some treasure chest(s). You can take gun powder that you can only get from killing creepers and treasure chest to make TNT as well. Creepers are the green things lthat look like penises. DO NOT LET THEM GET CLOSE....if you hear a TSSssSSssSSssSS" then they will blow within 1-2 seconds

Anyone having issues with the game lagging? Since yesterday, while playing, I get a clunky lag about every 3 seconds. Makes playing very epileptic (not fun). Thought it was an issue because I was playing offline, but no, it's there with the new loader as well.

i just spent about 2 fucking hours in some a caverns.

First i went down, then explored....said i was tired of this shit.....so i started diggin stairway up....then a LONG straight tunnel...why not???? then i went back into the tunnel and dug about 10 blocks down opposite of the torch i placed........ended up falling in a hole into another cave system FUCK......so i started exploring more then said fuck this.......then started a new way up and out......but that led me back to my long tunnel.....so i just went up and out that.....I had no clue where i was so i just kept jumping placing bricks under me until i found where i was and im waiting for day now lol.


i think im going to make a water slide and or roller coa....no just a water slide

I boated over to the next big island and found a weird shrine. It was a symmetrical pedestal on the ground, with a floating, upside-down "L" in the air, centered above it. It was all dirt, except for the top part of the "L", which was stone. There are also mushrooms growing on top of trees there.

I'm already getting annoyed with this game. I dug too deeply into the ground, found a zombie spawning cavern, got my ass kicked and had to rebuild all my tools most supplies like coal. I found A LOT of coal and other metals, then ran into the SAME FUCKING ROOM AGAIN.

I'm not sure I want to start for the 3rd time again.

OK fine, I didn't shitcan the game. I had already set up a field and my little area so I figured I would find some coal and immediately go put it away in a chest. The main problem was losing that coal because then I couldn't smelt iron anymore. Let's not even worry about the diamonds and red dust stuff I lost the 1st time the zombies wiped me out.

So anyway, I got a weird little crack den I made, put some glass tiles in the roof so I can tell when it's daylight again. Just made the bow and crafted some arrows, that's kinda fun.

So I got wheat growing pretty well and I fenced in the entire area so things don't trample my crops. Got a chest just for food with a decent amount of ham steaks and bread in there. Got some iron tools and a couple pieces of iron armor, the armor is hard to come by. I guess I'm gonna have to go back down into the area I keep dying in near the lava to get lava for my forge and to find more veins of metal.

the one thing that does make me made is that there ISNT veins, there more like blotches lol

and like when you find coal there will never seem to be diamonds under (at any depth) coal.

Pretty much what i did lol. Pretty much the right HALF of my inventory was cooked ham.

So anyway, i was fucking with mineedit last night...google it......

and I fucked my entire shit up....lost everything in two trunks and burnt down my house.

I exited out abruptly so I hope it didnt save that part....

If not I think im going to be done with this game.

Man, mining is tedious. I was reading a Minecraft forum and one of the posters explained his mining technique: He just started digging straight down in an 8X8, 20X20 or whatever size square, leaving one block on each level in a spiral staircase patter around the outside edge so he could get out.

Well I decided to try this out. I had a small cavern I'd dug out inside my own shelter area so I expanded it to a 10 block by 10 block strip mine. I've dug down about 20 blocks and I've found maybe 30 coal and like 8 iron. It's fucking ROUGH.

I got lucky and found a dungeon and cavern. every so often on my shaft i dug into the side of the walls just to see if there was anything good.

If you kill creepers before they blow up you can get gun powder.

if you mix gun gunpowder with sand you get TNT

I fucking FELL OUT OF THE BOTTOM OF THE WORLD GODDAMN IT. WHY in the hell do they let you do that?! I dug a block out and saw a blue glow so like a fucking asshole I jumped in only to see the world above me slipping away. I died and respawned with nothing on me again. I was so fucking pissed. So now when I see bedrock I kinda chill, then advance with caution.

I've become much better at the game and much smarter at storing away stuff after I collect a bunch, then saving and going right back in. I think one night when I have time I'm just going to load up on arrows, weapons and food, then find the lava flow I kept dying near with the monster spawner next to a chest and just fucking house the motherfuckers. Yeah, its a pin in the ass to find your self in a cave system with decent supply of Iron, red stone, gold, diamonds all in it. Being you want to explore it more but then your inventory is filled up. Something I usually do is toss cobblestone and dirt into lava when i see it sometimes. Ill usually try to keep only 64 of two blocks in there. That way is I need to I can jump and place them under me to kill things or just to GTFO.

One useful thing I found is when you go into your Inventory, you can actually store things where you place them to craft....the 4x4 box. I will usually put my blocks or anything that is filled up there. But then its a pain because you cant craft more torches if you need them unless you toss the shit out, then craft torches, then pick your other shit up again.

I was pissed becuase I dug a lot so i had a shit ton of bricks and I USED to place them into my li ne and hit "Q" on all of them to toss them.....until i figure out if you have inventory open, then you pick up a stack (64) of blocks then close it, it toss's them all :flush:

I probably tossed over 500 blocks with hitting "Q"

I would stand at each step and just dig like 4-5 blocks into the wall. but have block ready in your line up incase you hit lava or water lol. Just stand look straight and dig in. that reaches four blocks. Hit every other step or so maybe.

I just noticed, where you lighting trees on fire with your flint? How many pick axes did you go through for that too?

I use the flint to clear trees, yes. I find it great to do for 2 reasons:

1. I clears room for me to plant new ones.

2. It sometimes leaves undiscovered wood burning in air that I can harvest.

I also keep the flint on me because you can throw items down, like excess cobblestone for instance, and burn it away. I did this a lot while mining that shaft.

It took me a couple hundred stone pick axes probably. I would store 6 in my inventory and keep 2 on me at all times. When one broke I'd quickly scroll to the next one in my little equip bar and just keep mining. I keep Iron pick axes on me but I only use them to mine the harder stuff so I don't waste the blocks. I feel using iron to mine cobblestone is a real waste since it's so fucking hard to come by.

After I hit the actual bottom of the world I just started making 2 stairways back up on 2 opposite sides of my mineshaft. I'm making them roughly 10 blocks wide. One side I'm doing basically 1 block up and over, the other side I'm making 1 block up and 2 blocks over. Just breaking it up. Still only found 3 gold ore after all that fucking digging and zero diamonds.

Another thing to make mining more efficient. There is no need to mine stone, dirt, or gravel if you don't need it. I came up with grid mining. Get a safe spot on the bedrock and mine forward in a narrow 1x2 hallway, for a minute or two. Return to your point of origination and move over two blocks, and mine forward in the same direction. Repeat indefinitely. The gist of it is that you end up with an array of narrow hallways running in the same direction, and separated by two courses of block. This way, you are mining 1/3 of the blocks, and still exposing every single block.

That's a fucking weird coincidence. I decided to download Minecraft to my laptop a couple nights ago too, and when I turned it on the 1st world it loaded was an amazing looking landscape as well. There's a huge, flat sheer side of a mountain that has ore already exposed in it that I can see from my spawn point.

The other night I fucking dug straight into a lava flow. Scared the shit out of me. I was able to quickly back up and place a block in the way. After that I got kinda scared so I quickly built a chest to put the gold, diamonds and other valuable things I had found while mining. That way if I happened to dig into another lava flow and wasn't so lucky or I uncovered a large monster cavern, at least the stuff I found was safe.

I did end up digging into a small cavern with 2 skeletons in it, but unfortunately no chest or anything super kewl.

At least I found fucking diamonds, finally. I have like 150 redstone and absolutely no desire to build some sort of elaborate circuit. Wish it was the kind of game you could sell or trade stuff in for other things.

Well, you need to mine a lot. Make a hoe, use it on grass, get seeds, set up some dirt near water and grow wheat. Put sand in the furnace, make glass and build big domes and windows into your hideout. Hunt monsters at night, especially spiders, to get their string to make a bow and get feathers, flits and sticks to make arrows.

It's still kinda early on for the game it seems, hopefully they add more content soon. Good thing will be you paid less than $15 for the game so if it ends up being a big hit, you got in on the ground floor for real cheap.

I climbed to the top of a mountain on day, not like Hendrix, and saw across to another valley I wanted to check out. So I got my pick axes ready and dug The Holland Tunnel Jr.

While I was digging I happened to hit the edge of a small system of caverns, so I put a door on it and will investigate it further.

On the other side I found a bunch of cool looking formations and what not, so I decided since I was going to spend a lot of time over on this new area I'd better build another safe house. I had also found reeds and wanted an indoor farm, so this is my 2nd, smaller safe house:

The only problem is where I built this house, doesn't seem like a lot of area to dig, the walls are thin. So I'm going to have to carefully dig out one side and then straight down if I feel like strip mining inside my own safe house.

I spent hours last night trying to make a drowning trap/feather dispenser around a zombie span box I found underneath my house. I failed miserable with every design I could come up with. I burned through all my coal and glass, and I'm left with a uselessly glassed-in zombie spawner.

Holy HELL! I was just stuck underground for like 2 hours straight. I found an area near some lava way under my 1st safe house that I wanted to mine out. Found some diamonds, gold, iron, redstone, etc. so I felt it was a "lucky" area. I dug and dug and dug, found a decent amount of shit, so I created a chest to store it in since lava areas are dangerous and kept mining. I mined so far I actually met up with the other side of some caverns I'd located from a different direction from another cave. This, unfortunately, ended up getting me disoriented and so fucking confused that I pretty much just had to dig a stairway as straight up as I could just to get out.

I mean it was cool, as I was "lost" i found like 10 diamonds, 40 iron and a couple hundred coal, but I was doing some decent monster killing and avoiding the whole time.

Before I did the stairway thing I had the bright idea of just digging a single block shaft straight up, using the blocks I had mined as stepping stones to get further, mine as far up as I could, lather, rinse, repeat. Well that's an AWFUL idea because I hit water and almost died. I was basically in the bottom of a 1 cube wide pit with nowhere to go and you dig A LOT slower under water. Luckily this was close to the bottom of the cavern I had started trying to get out of so I had enough air to get out of my own trap.

I'm trying to figure out if I can play Minecraft off a USB drive at work now. Just to pass the time.

Oh, Sorry. I forgot the whole point of this post was that I had like 40 iron and 10 diamonds in a temporary chest that I had NO idea how to get back to, that's why I was freaking out as I was lost underground. But once I burrowed to the surface and saw my torch lit area in the distance I was able to get back to my temporary chest the long way and reclaim my stuff. Got like 20 diamonds now and enough iron where I feel somewhat comfortable...for now.

I found a place for some sweet Anasazi cliff dwellings, and I made an extended overhang above the entrance so no baddies can jump down to the entrance ledge. The plan was that they'd jump off the cliff trying to get to me, and end up splattered on the canyon floor. But they're surviving the fall and crowding around the one ladder up to my base.

When I go out and try to fight I get annihilated, and then after respawning, I'm still fucked because there are five more waiting for me around me ladder.

I was liking the game because it was a relaxing zen garden type of deal. Now I'm fighting for my life and it's making me crazy.

I had to work a lot the past week so I haven't had a lot of time to Minecraft. I sailed across a small lake near my spawn point and found another area I wanted to fuck with so I built yet another safe house. This time I destroyed the ground above it and made the entire place a huge flat topped glass dome. This way I can strip mine down into the ground with daylight and know what time it is just by looking up.

Whatty guys think about the update? Other than getting flammable blocks, the nether seems useless. Using it for fast travel is negated by the amount of time it takes to load in and load out of it, and the inaccuracy of portal placement. I went in the nether and came back out through the same portal, and it placed me in the overworld at a new portal that I hadn't made. I was about 2 minutes of swimming from my original portal. And the nether critters are far too strong. I had full diamond gear and one of the pig men killed me in about 2 hits. And fuck pumpkins; Halloween is over.

Yea, kinda unimpressed with the whole Nether. I play on Peaceful to explore and build so I don't give a good Goddamn about the new monsters. I turned Easy back on for a few minutes to see them, killed a couple and switched it back to Peaceful. Yawn.

I also had the same problem with the Portals. I created one near my spawn point and 1st safe house. Went through. OK, I'm in Hell, whatever. Walked back through the EXACT same portal and it put me underground in the caverns below my safe house. What the hell is that about?

Also, Hell is not that easy to navigate. It's full of huge chasms and lava. I decided to test the "fast transit" thing so I went into Hell and walked a considerable way until I couldn't go much further. I built the portal walked through and I'm somewhere underground in a cavern system that I'd have to dig straight up to even see where the fuck I am.

I really have zero reason to go into Hell. I got some of that Lightstone dust to play with, a few dozen mushrooms and walked out. Getting a little bored with Minecraft lately.

You guys know the regular stone blocks from the nether can be placed and ignited for indefinite time? Make good free torches. I made a square of them in the ground and ignited them, then built a glass house inside the square so that I could lure monsters to their fiery death and watch from in the house. But the monsters are too stupid, so that was boring. Kinda burning out on the whole thing.

I got so OUT of Minecraft it's a fucking crime. Haven't even turned the game on in about 3 weeks. Been even longer than that when I actually tried to do something meaningful in the game.

Notch is taking way too long to give the game an actual fucking direction. I hope he has fun with all the money he accumulated during the Alpah because I think the heat is falling off the game. He's setting up his little company, not sure what they'll do with it once it's open and I don't care anymore.

I'll wait until I hear about the next huge content patch to check it out, after all I do own the game since I bought during his Alpha. But as Minecraft stands right now, I'm done with it.

Yep, it was intensely fun for a little while, but I can't even imagine wanting to play now. And if I was Notch, I'd be buying an island somewhere and going off the grid.

I hear there's a new mode where you have a lot of fun at first, then it ceases being dynamic, so you are forced to dupe materials in a chest and start building grand constructs and contraptions, at which point you have to race your own boredom before it forces you to dupe massive amounts of TNT and destroy as much of the world as possible before the novelty wears off. Once you reach this level, you then attempt building cool contraptions with switches until you realize that building a clumsy physical representation of a simple computer program is toxicly boring.
