How do you save many money! Yeah, THAT'S what I meant!
We started shopping at a Super Walmart. (which I THINK MIGHT give me credit in the afterlife because A Super Walmart IS one of the lesser-known circles of Dante's inferno.)
We switched to the "green bulbs" and unplugged all the appliances we don't use. (We are on a monthly plan. It went down from $107 to $80 in 4 years.)
I got rid of cable TV and now use my comp to watch TV (I can wait a day or two until a new episode is uploaded). Plus Hulu and Netflix rock!
I use coupons and try to get things I REALLY need on super sale.
What are your spend-thrift ways?

Borrow my neighbors internet signals that aren't locked.
Illegal cable but it doesn't pick up the channels like it used to since the digital conversion.
Hulu and the internet to watch the tv shows that I follow.
I got to sporting events only if I get free tickets from my friends.
Library for books, newspaper, movies and internet.

Actually, watching those "Hookers On The Point" show has done more than anything to assure that I will never pick up a streetwalker.
My money saving move was that I dropped my iPhone plan, got a burner for the few actual calls I make, and bought an iPod Touch.

I cut my own hair. I bought an $18 dollar Wahl clipper about three or four years ago, and haven't paid for a haircut since.

Changing the way you drive will greatly increase your gas mileage.
along with making sure your car is running in its top noitch condidtion.
especially if you drive a lot. You might be able to increase it over 2mpg even.

I'm in the same boat, I have direct TV and used to have all the channels but a few months ago I got rid of all the movie channels. Even though I have hundreds of channels I can never find anything interesting to watch.

Nettalk - $60 a year Voip phone in home.
Tracphone - I talk very little so this costs me about $60 a year as well.
I bake my own bread weekly, as well as make two balls of dough for pizza. Make my own pesto, salsa, pasta and crepes.
Shop at the local fruit stand (MUCH, MUCH cheaper).

Im the same way. If I lived alone I could go with basic cable and watch shows online but not with the wife and kids here. The $190 a month I pay Comcast is worth it though. I have EVERY channel.
I pretty much sacrifice clothes and stuff for me in order to give to my wife and kids. Ive had the same pair of sneakers since Christmas. And my work shoes are so old they literally have a hole in the bottom of one of them. Every now and then Ill get a couple of t-shirts or shorts, but I havent gone actual warddrobe shopping since I bought my house 5 years ago. Instead of buying summer clothes for myself, I pay to have the pool opened so the kids can enjoy it. I also used to buy $100 worth of dvds every week but havent bought any for myself in years also.

I save 15% out of every paycheck into retirement and getting fired accounts. Then I spend the rest on whatever seems right, without going into debt. If that means by the end of the month I'm eating ramen and competing with Knox for the ugly hookers, so be it. Next payday I'll be lighting cigars with $100 bills. And I don't even smoke cigars.

I work an overnight shift. I'm up all night, sleep until like 3 or 4. There's not a lot of time to spend money, saves a lot.
You can't do shit, but at least you can save a little money.

Country Bob and Tripleskeet,
I was totally hooked on my cable TV. My bill was about $150. I lived alone and I'd have it on every moment I was at home whether I was watching it or not. I needed to have the background noise on.
Then my TV broke. I didn't have extra money for a TV (I know they're pretty cheap but I had gone through pay cut). I called and canceled my cable TV. It was really awkward at first but Hulu and Netflix have great options. I pay less than $10/month for Netflix. I get 3 DVDs per month and all the streaming media I can watch. Hulu is free and you can find ways to watch shows/events live (I saw the 2010 Oscars live, although it was through a British TV channel).
Of course, I'd be LOST if my cable modem died.
Moe, I KNOW that schedule! You don't spend money during the day when all you want to do is go home and SLEEP!
KublahKhan, will you be my next PESTo friend? Wow-- you bake your own bread? KUDOS!!!

i've been considering canceling my cable for a while now (or at least downgrading to the most basic option), since i can stream just about anything i want to watch, but i like being able to flip through channels to find something i like.
i really wish cable companies would be forced to offer a la carte service.

If it were just me, I would. But my wife doesnt like being on the computer and my kids like watching tv too. So its not really a choice for me.

I do the whole energy saving bulbs thing. Also keep all non essential items unplugged
A lot of people don't know it but leaving your cell charger plugged in drains power constantly.
I also coupon shop and keep only basic cable.
I eat at home and only cook for the 2 of us so there is no wasted left overs. Also I use a Keurig Coffee pot. It saves $$ on daily coffee expenses and only makes a cup at a time.
Home haircuts save big.

This is a very timely thread since my husband and I were riding high there for a while--he was working 2 jobs (one from home in the evening at his leisure) and I was OK in my part-time work-from home job. Then last month he quit his at-home job because he and his brother had a falling out (yeah, he was working for family--big mistake) which was a cut of about $2000 a month! We could live with that since our mortgage is paid off, but now my boss hasn't paid me in 2 months, and I have a bad feeling I'm never going to see that money (about $4 grand) we are now scrambling, trying to come up with a budget--something we never had to really worry about before (but understand, we were never rich, we just could go shopping at the grocery and not worry about what we put in the cart--that level of comfortable and we didn't buy outside our means i.e.: credit cards paid off every month). So learning how to be frugal again is going to be hard, but necessary. A lot of good ideas in this thread, thanks!

We're going to have to tighten our belts even more. Marco will be getting laid off in the next few weeks (but they consider him a great worker and try to give him as much work as possible). We're going to lose our insurance-- not good since I'm on 3 medications.
My real estate taxes went up $588 (basically a whole mortgage payment) and they're going up another 10% in the new year. I think that makes it a 38% tax increase. NJ has a cap on real estate tax increases (like 5%). Jersey City is one of the most corrupt city's in NJ and Gov. Christie doesn't give a rat's ass.
My condo maintenance is going up; PLUS I have to "chip in" an extra $165 for the next three month to fix our fire sprinkler system.
I have this AWFUL feeling my hot water heater is on its way out. I have low water pressure and it takes a long time for the hot water to heat up (granted, the water has to travel from the basement to the 3rd floor). The hot water heater is 13 years old.
And one of my car's gaskets is leaking oil.
My unemployment is all accounted for when it comes to bills. We already eat beans and rice three-four times a week. We brew our own coffee at home and carry it in a thermos. We never go to the movies. We never eat out. The one thing that's helping us is that I paid extra on our utilities when I got laid off and had the money. I pay them a little each month to keep our credit.
Sorry to be a bummer-- I just had to vent. I'm trying to look on the bright side: my mortgage and maintenance are still affordable (well, they will be when I get a full-time job). My car is paid for and the insurance is low. If the hot water heater goes, I can call PSE&G 24/7 and add the price of the heater to my monthly bill (any plumbers out there willing to help me out? We go to Home Depot, I buy a hot water heater and I pay you in cash, food, and beer). And Marco is almost done with his truck driving course. Hopefully he'll have a better paying job by the end of the year. And my doctor is pretty cool-- he'll give me a discounted rate and give me medication samples to last 3 months.

I took the (lifetime) K&M air filter out of my car and ran the vacuum cleaner on it.
I bring my own lunch to work every day......and then there's the grifting.

In this one apartment I lived in, I had to pay for electric heat, but I didn't have to pay for water or water heating. So to save money, I just turned the shower all the way on hot and let the warm, steamy air flood the apartment.
