View Full Version : Nickleback should die
I severely hate them, they are worse than any corporate rock bullshit in the 70s-80s. At a bar tonight, some cunt decided to play every fucking nickleback song and I wanted to pay the drunk bitch next to me so she would punch her in the face, whine drinking whore.

Someone here is drunk.
I hate them too, but let's be real, ...what was my point, I'm drunk,
What year is this, who here doesn't hate that band? Relax my friend.
The Year 2002 called and they agree with your sentiment.

I won't lie and I'll say I thought that first tune they had was catchy, I liked the song from the first Spiderman movie and somehow they became a country act as I've scene a video on the country channels and while it's nonsense it's not the worst thing I've heard.
But I wouldn't ever see myself paying to hear any of their songs, even the ones I like, and certainly wouldn't wanna hear an entire cd.
They can die but I have a whole bunch of others they need to take w/ them.

Of all the utter garbage that's out there, I've always wondered why Nickelback gets such a disproportionate amount shit. It's obvious that Nickelback hate is a full-fledged meme -- they get trashed and more people just jump on the bandwagon, but why'd it start?
Was there some Dane Cook bit about Nickelback sucking or something? No, that can't be it, since Dane Cook hate is its own meme. I'm going to guess it was Jon Stewart.

It also bugs the shit out of me when people who don't like a band, like to think that people who DO like them, really don't. Those are the people who like to say things like "too cool for the room". I've never met anyone (who wasn't a pre-teen) who pretended to like a certain band or genre of music. People like or don't like what they like or don't like. Criticizing someone for liking a certain form of entertainment is usually a sign of insecurity.

People like or don't like what the like or don't like. This is where I disagree w/ Ron sometimes because he seems to act like a music snob and that what he likes is the only thing that's real music and that if you like anything else, popular or not, your taste sucks.
People like the way things sound and that's why they'd listen.
It's that simple.

I think it was on Thursday's show when some caller brought up a Lou Reed song that Jeff Buckley covered.
I guess the Buckley version is more popular and Ron said as much implying that the Lou Reed version is the only version.

But did he imply that saying you like the Buckley version makes you part of some cliche' trend? Has he ever said that anyone ever just "pretends" to like something?
I'm ragging on you. This is more about what Dude! said, and what I think Gacy implied about NOT liking certain bands.

Surprisingly Im not drunk, when Im drunk Im more mellow. And I wouldnt have been so pissy if it was one or two songs but they played an entire album which is just horse shit.

There is something about music that connects to a person in a very intimate way. Above all other art forms, music is the one we are most emotionally connected to.
If you said to somebody, "there's a little gas station on the corner that makes the best coffee in the world. It's even better than Starbucks or Dunkin' or that gourmet stuff."
The other person would say "Great! I gotta check that out. Let's go right now."
But, if somebody said, "There's a kid who lives next door to me who is always practicing in his drum kit. He's better than John Bonham!"
The other person would say "Fuck you, retard. You don't know what the fuck you're talking about."
Music solicits such an emotional response that it can actually come between two people. that were once friends.
I've always been fascinated by that.
If somebody likes a sports team, there's a good chance that they're tied to the state that that team is from. Not always but... often.
But we CHOOSE to like the bands we like. If a person CHOOSES to think that Right Said Fred is the best band on the planet, you immediately know that that person is a fuckin' retard. You can go ahead and delete them from your phone.
Fascinating.

Am I alright in your book?
