Broadly speaking, "shooting" means anything not "worked". For instance, you can do a "shoot" promo where you go off-script and reveal something you're not supposed to.

Some of the instances mentioned were real fights, and it looks like some of them were just wrestlers deciding to go against how the outcomes were supposed to be booked.

i watched wrestling for like 8 years when i was younger and never heard that before. Does this happen often? It would seem like something they would put strong language against in the contracts

I don't think it happens much. You hear about some guys taking liberties, like Bob Holly would go rough on a guy because he's supposedly arrogant or disrespectful in the locker room.

FAR more prevalent in modern times are so-called "worked shoots" where the performer will act like he's going off script. Since nowadays everyone knows everything is fake, it's the only way to make people think that just maybe something real is happening.

See the famous CM Punk promo from last summer:

there was a douche who was starting to wrestle just as i stopped watching. he was supposedly some body building champion. He didnt have much of a character other than flexing his roid induced muscles int eh ring. Everyone HATED to wrestle him cause he was terrible and really stiff and would drop guys wrong or just be too rough. I forget his name. If someone could help me, he came on a couple of months after the HHH Stephanie mcmahon wedding. I think it was some awful french shit but i could be wrong on that part.

Anyway, the last thing i remember was someone (i think either the rock on a guest spot or steve austin on a guest spot, took exception to something he did and literally fucked him up droppin him on his head and i think he never wrestled again after that

At first I thought you were talking about Chris Masters but he never got beat like that. Dont get shoots confused with working stiff. Guys like Bob Holly, Farooq and Bradshaw always worked stiff, which meant they pretty much punched their opponent for real to make it look good because they were shitty at pulling them.

Shoots were where something happens either before or during a match and it becomes a real fight. It doesnt happen too often nowadays as there are contracts, lawsuits and such that keep people afraid of it. The last I remember seeing was at the ECW One Night Stand PPV where in a brawl at the end Bradshaw started really beating up the Blue Meanie, his face was a bloody mess, until Tracy Smothers started fucking him up legit. The Dudleys had to pull him off of Bradshaw.

But theres alot of old stories about real shooters fucking people up for real. Gene Lebell, Lou Thesz, Stu Hart, Haku, Harley Race, and a few Japanese wrestlers were considered the baddest fuckers around. Theres alot of stories of all of those guys legitimately fucking people up. Especially Haku.

I dont remember that. But I do know they suspended him for steroids and he came back like 3 months later looking like he shrunk by half a person. HHH even buried him on TV for it. He told HHH "Im writing a book on nutrition" and the reply was "Oh Yea? Whats it called? How to lose 40 pounds in a month and a half?"

i think it was right before he was suspended. I dont mean someone laid him out and injured him where he had to miss time. I think it was just a guest spot, everything went the way it should have, just during one of the moves, someone gave him back a little bit of his stiff medicine. I really think stone cold made a guest appearance or something. For some reason i remember it being him. maybe it was just an accident but i definately remember him gettin knocked out

The funny thing is I loved his gimmick. He was big and muscluar, caoul move fairly well, and had a great finisher. They shouldve just let him keep juicing and continued to push him. He wouldve made a good main event heel.

There was this famous incident where Bob Holly sandbagged Brock Lesnar ( intentionally made himself `heavy' so Brock would have trouble lifting him) and got legit dropped on his neck for it.
