What can I do about this? Every now and then my comp gets that little yellow exclamation point sign near my comp connection icon and my connection is gonzo. I've looked into it and seemingly nothing worked yet.

Why does this happen? Any ideas to fix it?

It usually means that while the computer is detecting itself as being connected to the network, there's no data in the signal. Try resetting both the router and the modem, and see if that helps.

If it's happening a lot, call your ISP and tell them to fix your shitty connection. It's probably that.

I used to get something similar every once in a while. All of the sudden I'd lose the connection and the exclamation box would come up and the internet light on my router would go from blue to red. Turns out I hadn't set up the router right. I reset my router and went through the set up again and hadn't had a problem since.

what setup?

outside of shutting both down and then on, I'm not sure what I can do setup wise to fix this.

I know when I'd have problems, Comcast would say to first turn of the modem, then the router, then the comp. Wait a minute. Turn on the modem Wait a minute. Turn on the router. Wait a minute. Turn on the comp.

My similar nightmare is partially documented here:
Sporadic Asshole WiFi (http://ronfez.net/forums/showthread.php?t=87384&highlight=sporadic+asshole)

I only have to reset my router every week or so now, and I haven't switched routers in about a month. But my comp is eternally "Identifying" my network. I didn't change a thing, it just oscillates between gut-wrenching shittiness and tolerable mediocrity. As I said before, my wife's laptop had exactly the same problems as mine did, but now, having changed nothing, hers never has the problem and does not constantly "indentify" the network, and she has a far better connection sitting right next to me.

I remember in high school, pseudo-nihilistic wannabe anarchists would always say how spectator sports were designed by the powers that be to distract and control us. I am now convinced that WiFi routers are tailored to this purpose. There's no way I'm going to be able to organize a revolution with this shitty connection.

One of my pc's is doing this now. But it doesn't seem to be connection related. I had just set a scaner to autorun at start before this started happening. So I thought that must be it. And nothing else goes bad with it.
