So you can get a band/performer to provide the soundtrack of your life. Only one. Who do you pick?
I would go with The Mountain Goats myself.

Now that I am intoxicated, I would have Radiohead's 'motion picture soundtrack' on loop. But, that's only because I'm drunk. A sad drunk today.

Cotton is a song by The Mountain Goats that was featured on Showtime's hit show Weed's. Really good song.

Just listened to that song. Wow, they are so depressing that they make the Arcade Fire seem upbeat.

Listen to their album 'All Hail West Texas'. Not as depressing. In fact, a lot of their stuff is pretty uplifting. 'This Year' for example. Such good music though. And the guy knows how to write lyrics.

I've been trying to convince sarah that this should be the first dance song at our wedding for about 6 months with little success.

Dude, John Darnielle has been writing the most depressing songs since the first Mountain Goats release - it's only uplifting in that 'at least I'm not the most depressed person alive' sort of way.
He is/was an excellent songwriter, though.

On second read: I see what you did there. I am filled with a deep shame ... further cementing my role as Fez in this thread.
I'm sorry, it was a stupid thing to say. It's just that lately I have a hard time understanding the posters.

Yea, a lot of it is depressing. He has an album based on his abusive step father. He has an album based on a alcohol/drug addicted abusive couple who basically stay together because, well, they just do. Until she finally leaves.
But his newest album, The Life of the World To come, has some pretty life affirming stuff. Yeah, it's kind of a sad situation the people in his songs are dealing with it, but the way they handle it is uplifting.
