I went to visit the auction site since I'm listening to the show now. I look at recent winners and Fez won the fucking $100 Visa gift card too! What is going on? That's crazy. I'm really debating playing this damn thing now.

Yup, 100dollardreams.com. It's an "auction" site which is more like a game of strategy/chance. He won a laptop his first auction, and he just won a gift card in another auction. This motherfucker is on fire.

Sirius/XM is full of scam sponsors.
It got me to try it. It's gambling plain and simple, but I'm going to give it a shot. I was going to go in on the iPad, but when you click "Buy Seat" it sent me to Paypal, where I paid, but I thought it gave me the seat. No, it funds your account. You then have to go and buy the seat. I went in on the TV instead since by the time I realized this, the iPad auction was full.
The TV is 100 people at $20 a pop. The MSRP is $1699, but the Amazon price is $1,199 currently. The site grosses $2,000 for running the auction. So they are probably making double what the TV is worth. The rest will be eaten up by advertising, wages, hosting, blah blah blah. It seems like a low margin, depending upon how cash intensive this business is. However, I think they will increase the players per auction in the future when they realize they aren't making that much. That will lower everyone's odds.
Some other math. At 100 people and 20 bids a person, plus 20 seconds a bid, the contest has the potential to run for 11 hours. That's if everyone bids perfectly, at 1 second remaining. Hopefully doesn't last nearly that long.
The payout according to Amazon price is 60:1 while the odds of winning are 100:1. Better than a lottery, but worse than a casino obviously.
While that is shitty, I thought their other "auction" sponsor was way worse. That was the one where you could get the product for a low price, but you paid a few pennies per bid. That was much more deceptive in my opinion.

The 100dreams.com scam may be Fez's downfall. Who would imagine Fez would end up doing the perp walk over a radio bit? Fez may finally have real problems--prison time.
One could speculate Fez is being set up as a winner "Quiz Show" style. This is a game of timing and quick reaction, yet, Fez uses a slow dial-up modem on an old, spy-ware laden PC, and calls in through AOL. How could he conceivably win twice in a row?
The website just started in July (this month!), is hosted by GoDaddy.com, and all the text on the site is converted to fuzzy images. All suspicious signs of a fly-by-night operation.
The terms and conditions reserve the right to make you do a press release and commercials on TV and radio. Could Fez be stuck in an eternal loop where they fake his wins and keep forcing him to do live read ads?

That's a bit. He may have had dial up in the past, but they are just rolling with that as a bit, now. He has often talked of watching videos online at home. He wouldn't be doing that, if he still had dial up. Not to mention... A while back he had the problem of his cable being out when his family was visiting. He said he had now cable or Internet because of it.

It's not a big deal. If you look at the bid history there aren't that many people actually "bidding". Fez only had to beat out 2 other people for the mini laptop.

Actually it's not really about timing and quick reaction if I understand it correctly. This isn't like Ebay where you're trying to "snipe" bids at the last possible second. It's mostly luck. You just hope other people waste their bids before you, and when you waste a bid, you hope everyone waits for someone else to place their bid to knock you off, and then no one does, so that you win.
It's not a big deal. If you look at the bid history there aren't that many people actually "bidding". Fez only had to beat out 2 other people for the mini laptop.
I think it only shows the last 10 bids. I believe it was mentioned on the show the day after he won the laptop.

I hadn't checked out the website before... looks pretty ghetto. Is there a company behind this, or just some kid with a few extra bucks lying around and a business idea? I counted 4 grammatical errors on the site and it looks like something a college student working on a Computer Science degree could put together. Makes me wonder if they actually have a lawyer on staff to make sure this kind of 'auction' site is legal and doesn't count as online gambling.
Sorry for running down a sponsor, but I expected better if they are advertising this thing on XM/Sirius...

EXACTLY!
If Proctor & Gamble can constantly run ads with bad grammar on network TV, why can't a website have errors?
