With the release of Ramona and Beezus, I was thinking about Children's books when I was younger.
It made me think of a book I SWORE was Beverly Cleary Henry Huggins book, but apparently not.
The plot points involved a cross-country trip across America (possibly in a station wagon), a trip to a fireworks store, and the protagonist dying his skin to look like an Indian/Native American.
Does anyone recall this book?

My spam sniffing skills were so finely tuned back then that mods just went with my recommendations with little to no investigation.
