99 years old. A fixture of NY sports. (http://sports.espn.go.com/new-york/mlb/news/story?id=5371001&campaign=rss&source=MLBHeadlines)

It's a sad day, but the man lived a full life.
I wonder if YES will still continue to use his voice as part of their branding.

You probably had to grow up in the New York area to appreciate him. I remember I was at a Giants-Bengals game years ago and there were these two Ohio bumblefucks sitting in front of us. They spent the whole pre-game warm-ups complaining about the cost of the bus ride from midtown and actually had a ten minute conversation about the seven dollar beers they just got and how crazy it was to charge that. Then Bob Sheppard came on the PA and the one guy announces "Oh, this guy is fucking horrible! Is he fucking joking? He's got to go."

of course thats your response. im surprised you didnt go the other way with that and whine about how the yankees bought him instead of drafting him out of the PA announcers draft like all the other teams do with their PA guys

I thought it was cool to see that he was the announcer at the classic Colts-Giants NFL Championship Game in 1957, the game that pretty much put pro football on the sports map.
He sounds like he was a total class act in every possible way too.

Great life. It's too bad he couldn't have gone out on his own accord and had health problems force him out of the booth. The guy saw some historic baseball.
I guess God needed a voice.
