He's going to the Clippers to play with Baron Davis and Blake Griffen (if he doesn't somehow die this offseason), how can you pass that up?

No fucking way. I don't think he is that worried about the money. He wants the ring. South Beach is the perfect place for his image. Look at all the bullshit with him being photographed with the Yankees hat on. He loves being in the media.

Deadspin's article on this whole LeBron bullshit, with the beautiful title "LeBron James Is a Cocksucker", is fucking classic.

It doesn't matter where he opts to go. If he goes to Chicago, he's a cocksucker. If he goes to Miami, he's a goddamn cocksucker. Even if he goes back to Cleveland, he's a goddamn cocksucker. He's a self-aggrandizing sack of shit, and ESPN is a bunch of pussy-whipped enablers for giving him a free hour of airtime tomorrow night and inevitably using 55 minutes of it to let Stu Scott give him a rimjob.

Look at what Kevin Durant did today He signed an extension well before he could have filed for free agency, announced the signing, and then went back about his business. He didn't need all this dog-and-pony show bullshit. James does, and that means he's a dipshit. People have been kissing this man's ass SINCE FUCKING MIDDLE SCHOOL, and he still needs this hourlong AFI tribute special? Bullshit. BULLSHIT.

Well, whaddya know: ESPN is spoiling their dog & pony show by reporting LeBron James will be signing with Miami.

Of course, I'm suspicious enough of ESPN to think a report will be coming out later that he's signing with the Knicks, and then a few hours after that a report will come out that he's staying in Cleveland.

Oh Jesus fuck,, Dan LeBetard is playing his usual role of Defender Of The Poor Downtrodden Athlete for LeBron, saying "This show he's putting winning over everything else."

I hope the Heat miss the playoffs next year. Fuck 'em

I'm so disappointed to see so many guys on here whose opinions I respect discussing this topic.

I didn't even wanna come in the thread and read it but hoped that after I did it was all pooping on James.

I hate basketball to begin w/ so that doesn't help but I was so sick of ESPN for all of the nonsense they're supporting around this.

Why they are giving this jerkoff his own show is beyond me.

They hype they are running themselves is awful.

There was some kinda comment this morning by that idiot Reescha Canidate saying " This is the most anticipated event in NBA history " or some such nonsense.

Talk about it made it's way into highlights of a Nationals/Padres game !!!!

I had the misfortune of tuning into Mike & Mike a few times this morning and it seemed like they dedicated their whole show to the issue today.

But to stay within the thread topic after that rant I'll echo what a few said and I hope this guy never wins a thing.

Then he can explain to his illegitimate children why he calls himself the king despite never having won anything.

Its not that he is without talent, but there are athletes, and there are champions, and there is a difference! If there wasn't then what's the fucking point? Lebron has had the undeserved attitude of a champion since he entered the league, and I've hated him for thinking he is something he is not as a player and a person since.

You cant call yourself the best if you dont have a ring. I dont give a fuck what kind of goofy logic you try to use to defend this, THE TROPHY IS THE PROOF YOU ARE THE BEST.

Why the fuck should I care thats hes talented? 1/2 the NBA is talented. Being talented doesnt make you a champion.

But the incredible basketball is so obvious! Just because he hasn't won a championship yet doesn't he hasn't obviously been amazing as a player! The bottom line is you'll have great players in all the major sports who never win it all! Let's use Philly as an example since I brought them up; Allen Iverson is one of the greatest basketball players of all time. Are we supposed to ignore that because he never won a ring?

Know what I said about Jordan before he won his first titles? "Hes nothing until hes won a ring. Dont even mention his fucking name with Larry Bird and Magic Johnsons because right now all he is is the Pistons bitch."

Not sure he was 25 at the time though.

I dont care what the sport is, to be the best, you HAVE to have won a championship. Being the best in not just being the most talented guy on the field. Its about making your team better, leading them, and making them believe enough to win a championship. Thats why I dont care what argument you try to use, you can NEVER call guys like Dan Marino, Patrick Ewing, Charles Barkley or Ken Griffey Jr. the best. Period.

Exactly, being the best is being superior AND being able to motivate your team to go all the way.

Also, basketball is much more about the individual than baseball. I agree with the championship argument in the NBA. But not in MLB. Fuck, just look at Carlton in 72 for proof of that.

Championships are a team product! Even the very best can't be an entire team!

Yah! Dan Fouts = best qb ever!!!! and announcer!?

I heard after signing Wade and bosh they had almost no money to fill out the rest of their roster. Now they have money?

Also, basketball is much more about the individual than baseball. I agree with the championship argument in the NBA. But not in MLB. Fuck, just look at Carlton in 72 for proof of that.

MLB gets no pass

Sailor is right. If any sport's players should get one, it's MLB. Now if you were there and SUCKED it up as some clearly have, that hurts any claims at all. If you employ that in MLB, douches that flock to perennial playoff teams like the yanks get WAY TOO much credit. Eg. every fucking pitcher the yanks put on the mound minus petitte and mo.

Youre talking about indiviual accomplishments like they are important. Heres a fun fact for you THE MOST IMPORTANT STAT IN ANY SPORT IS THE W. Anyone thats played organized sports will tell you one of the first things they teach you is "Indiviual accomplishments are worthless if you dont win."

And if any sport gets a pass on the championship thing, it would be baseball. But not completely. Guys who play great during the year but dissapear when their teams make the playoffs dont get off the hook as far as Im concerned.

This is so stupid, on multiple layers:

1. Stringing the whole process out into this orgy of attention whoring, complete with a terrible hour-long special for the ultimate decision, just makes him look like a total douche who wanted to stick it to Cleveland. If he's going, it should heave been a more dignified, far more low-key departure. Especially since he's always made such a big deal about how awesome it is to be playing for his hometown.

2. The fact that Miami now has 3 max contracts on their payroll means that beyond the Big Three of LeBron, Bosh, and Wade, they're going to have a bunch of jabronis and scrubs on the team beyond that. That strikes me as one of those teams that kicks ass in the regular season, and then collapses quickly in the playoffs.

3. And here's the big one: even if he does get his ring, it's as much for what Bosh and Wade did as him. This is not his team. If he stays in Cleveland, or even goes to a team like Chicago or New York, that's his team. It's his show. In this situation, he's pretty much just signed on to help Dwayne Wade get another ring.

So he's basically turned himself into the most hated man in sports, the embodiment of the asshole athlete with an out-of-control ego, and he's landed in a situation where he might not win, and even if he does, he's the #2 guy.

Good job, "King" James.

That letter is amazing, talk about a dick move.

You think that owner would ever lose sleep over cutting a guy that wasn't helping them win? He got rid of a coach that helped them win just because he didn't get them to the finals his year, where was the loyalty then?

Truth is if LeBron was hurt, or lost a few step down the road he would have traded him away for someone that would have helped the team win.

Lebron wants to win a championship, and thinks this is the best move, so he made it. The same way owners and GMs make moves all the time to win. Owners buy and sell people like its nothing, but I guess they don't like being on the other side.

This is worse than Modell. Because of finances running the Stadium Corp., and the unwillingness of the city to build the Browns a new building too painted Art into a corner, unless he wanted to sell the team at a debillitating loss. The mayor and city council at the time are as if not more culpable than Modell for the team leaving.

What stings is that Lebron is a northeast Ohio kid, one of US, and he chose to humiliate a fanbase that loved him unconditionally on national TV(those poor impoverished street urchins of Greenwich. Where's pete gas?). The Indians losing free agents is what it is, but this is a big F.U. and kick in the balls to a very loyal fanbase.

Funny, bc I remember it having a lot to do with a bunch of assholes underachieving and not winning being a joke in the end for the yanks. As for the rangers, it's a different game and money alone just doesn't buy a Stanley Cup. I can understand this kind of coverage if a player like say Kobe Bryant w/ 5 rings was making a move but seems like a lot of hoopla over a guy that's won nothing.

He'll always be 2nd fiddle in Miami even if they win 3 titles because that'll mean Wade, a franchise player, has won 4.

Roles obviously reversed if Wade had gone to Cleveland but now James went to Wade's team.

Very much like a Jeter/ARod thing in my opinion.

Except for Jordan and Duncan, alot of the great players had other great players on their teams and didn't even win the Finals MVP each time they won a championship. Kareem-Magic-Worthy, Bird-Cedric Maxwell (won the mvp in '84), Kobe-Shaq.

But for each of those guys (Kareem, Magic, Bird, Kobe, Shaq), there is no question that at some point they were the leader of the championship team.

It will go down as, James couldn't lead a team to the championship.

For Fuck's Sake, the Celtics just did pretty much the same fucking thing and I didn't hear shit on that issue. The Yankees do it yearly with hired guns, bc they had the same team as 2008 with the exception of 2 pitchers and a first baseman. Hmmmm, wonder why they went from missing the playoffs to winning the WS?! It happens every fucking day, and James is just the last guy to do it.

However, Wade is the champ here and will be a God in Miami for helping lead this team to getting both guys. To me, it not only shows his leadership, but his ability to get people to share his vision and it's impressive. Booo fucking hooo knicks fans. I love seeing the same guys cry about a free agent going somewhere else for the "easy route" by the very same people who root for the yankees. Hypocrite douches.

ESPN still had the hype machine working this morning w/ one of the people calling James " one of the greatest players in the history of the NBA ".

Now I've already said that I don't watch nor do I care about basketball but I know the guy is one of the better players right now but are they really considering him one of the greatest ever ?

Hence the reason I said I disagree and then went on to rip the knick/yank fans continuously calling ny sports radio all but crying like kevin on the radio about James. They have gone as far as saying the NBA and all it's fans across the world lost out bc James is an asshole since he chose ANYTHING but NY. In the very next breath they go on to say it's "not fair" how the Heat got all three and their titles won't mean shit. HAHAHAHAHHAHhhhahahaa! The next call is now usually a guy saying he's pumped the yanks are going to get Werth and or Lee so they can bump the lesser of Vasquez or AJ come playoff time. That's who I called hypocrite douches. :wallbash:

Well I'm in the same boat on the NBA with you, but I do know he has a LONG way to go taking the best NBA rapist player of all-time. Kobe has that locked up, but he won some titles so all is forgiven. The rock filled this role with his wife.

I dont see how people can kill him. He stayed at Cleveland 7 years. They never showed they could put the talent needed around him. Why should he stay and hope that theme changes? In the world of sports where players go for the money, the man is taking LESS money to have a shot at a ring. Someone here brought up the Garnett comment about how loyalty can bite you in the ass. That is so true.

And NYers need to get over this whole "players should want to come here b/c.....hey....its NY". He didn't want to play for the Knicks b/c they don't have the talent to win right now. He picked a place for his best chance to win NOW.

Barkley, Miller and all these other legends are just jealous. B/c guys like Barkley and Miller never won titles and they wish they could have done the same thing that James is doing. Oh yea, he totally should have been loyal. Gee, how'd that work for Miller?

I think that if the ultimate result had been him announcing he'd stay in Cleveland, people wouldn't be criticizing him nearly as much for this show as they are now. Having this show makes it look like he is revelling in the fact that he's telling his hometown to go fuck itself. It should have been a far more low-key affair.

If he'd announced he was going to New York, he'd still getting some shit for this, but the New York media would be licking his ass too, so it would balance out.

there are two sides to this coin

yes he was an ass for not being up front with his old team, but it's his choice. the way he did this is a fucking joke and 99% of the people here agree. it's the 180 that people in ny made once he chose miami. this other side, the one where ny fans and some others all of a sudden hate bron and feel slighted is HILARIOUS.

Does it show he's an egotistical asshole? Sure. Does it also show that people back up this attitude and have kissed his ass (including the knick fans bc they wanted him) for years? Yes as well. It basically symbolizes the game in question, all image, no substance or pride. I can watch any sport, but after the world cup this year, I realize NBA has gone down the ladder even more. Now add this bullshit and it only makes it worse. NY fans are the biggest hypocrites in this whole thing though. I hate LeBron and the NBA, but my hate for the NY fan in all of this makes me want him to win every fucking title in Miami possible until he leaves or it's broken up. Not only will people bitch and moan about it, it exposes the issues with formed dream teams that the NY fans themselves wanted and now bitch about. It's funny, but at least Wade is an original Heat. The Jets are the only long suffering fans you guys have, and the reason it doesnt matter is because you dont usually find someone thats a fan of all the NY teams that dont win. Its not pride. Its appreciation. New York is the rich kid who just bought his first car with the inheritance he got when his grandfather died. That World Series in 08 was like a kid working for years in order to save up the money to buy it. Both appreciate their car, but not at the same level.

Um...the 25 years Philly waited was for EVERY SPORT. In those 54 years Rangers fans waited how many fucking World Series parades did they have? In the last 15 years how many parades has New York had? Youre not long suffering fans. Get over it.

And I dont think Philly are anymore either. The Super Bowl thing is very big for me, but that World Series win and parade was so great that it will hold me over for quite awhile. If I had to look at long suffering fans right now Id have to say Cleveland, Buffalo and Minnesota are up there.

And I agree that Lebron is a douche for doing it the way he did, but for ny fans to act hurt bc of it is a FUCKING JOKE. Then to make it out to be unfair or a future bs title if he wins in Miami is also comedic since it's their blueprint for every team in every sport win or lose.

As for the Sox, they get more leeway from me for two reasons, they are actually the loudest proponent for a cap. This is the second reason, they want the cap bc they only spend as much as they do to somewhat maintain the gap to contend over 162 games with the yanks. It hasn't worked over the 162 that much either, but they have made it count in the playoffs (which is the great equalizer if you have some top end pieces).

bothered to look it up...fuck that I remember this and countless other "stories" and mentions of players in all the major sports back to the damn 80s say similar shit after all-star games, charity events, off-season gatherings or olympic type teams. My point is actually backed up by your very post and we actually talked about it later (after ur post) that they can say ANYTHING years ago and it's not written in stone. He sure as hell wasn't 100% on this until recently, and probably wouldn't have gone anywhere if he won a title or two in Cleveland. Yes, other teams were a player, including the knicks, but now that it wasn't the KNICKS they all chose, knick fans are crying about the very plan they hoped would have made their team. I know you didn't think he was coming, but I surely know one who did...even when it was CLEAR AS FUCKING DAY!! But hey, he's a pussy....now.

i really thought he would take the challenge, come to a major market and turn around a shitty but once great franchise.

instead he took the easy way out, disappointing but i really don't care.

This was my thought exactly. Take the franchise, try to win a championship and make it your own. I know they love Patrick Ewing there, but if he did that they wouldnt even remember Ewings name after that. I thought he was going to try to make his name synonymous with the team like Jordan - Bulls, Magic - Lakers, Bird - Celtics, Dr J - Sixers.

I shouldve known better. Pussy.

I keep hearing these 3 stooges talk about how this is history and how there's never been 3 of the best players ever on the same team.

First of all who told these morons they they were in the list of best ever ?

1 title in 21 or so seasons between them.

How about they win at least even one title before they start saying how great they will be.

I can't wait for the failure, then the fighting and then the excuses.

I wanna stab myself for putting this much thought into basketball but I can't escape it because ESPN is still alloting 15 minutes of every hour update show to this topic.

Any good quotes from Shaq or Kobe or anybody else in the league ?

Let me tell Kareem, Magic, and Worthy the news...

3/3 won NCAA championships
3/3 won NCAA tourney MOPs
3/3 won final MVPs
2/3 have multiple league MVPs
5 NCAA and 14 NBA titles total

that one is probably the best ever hardware wise.

Chamberlain, Baylor and West too but they didn't really have the reign they should have.

Never... no NCCA championships, no NCAA tourney MOP's, only one won NBA MVP, only one won NBA finals MVP. Not even close. Not to mention 2 to 1 in NBA finals matchups, with the winners below.

But do we know that for sure ?

Can't they simply get worse as they get older ?

I don't follow the sport but I figure as is the case in almost all sports you have guys that are good for 7 years or so but then they start to slip.

I see no reason why that couldn't be the case with these guys. And I'm not even factoring in injuries because I usually don't wish that on anybody no matter how much I hate them.

I've heard the old Celtics teams and Lakers teams mentioned by people who know the sport and wish somebody would remind these jackoffs of that.

This clearly seems to be a case of people believing their own clippings.

Bird, McHale and Parrish are 3 of the best 50 NBA players of all-time. But as hammersavage pointed out, the Lakers 3 get the edge in hardware.

But Bill Russell trumps them all: 11 NBA Championships, led the University of San Francisco to two consecutive NCAA championships (1955, 1956), won a gold medal at the 1956 Summer Olympics as captain of the U.S. national basketball team,
# 5× NBA MVP (1958, 1961–1963, 1965)
# 12× NBA All-Star (1958–1969)
# 3× All-NBA First Team Selection (1959, 1963, 1965)
# 8× All-NBA Second Team Selection (1958, 1960–1962, 1964, 1966–1968)
# 1× NBA All-Defensive First Team Selection (1969)
# 1× NBA All-Star Game MVP (1963)

Some of the things Kareem has more of than Russell:
3 NCAA championships
3× NCAA MOP
19x NBA all-star
6x NBA MVP
10x NBA 1st team
5× NBA All-Defensive 1st Team
all time leading scorer

Comparing eras is a tough thing to do, not to mention trophies are very political...especially these days. I think all the players mentioned are outstanding in their eras, some had better competition, others had better complimentary players around them. The bottom line on this argument is we can't even have it yet. I'm sure they'll win a few, probably soon too bc James almost did it himself and now he has a ton of help. If there is ever a sport where it can happen like this, it's basketball.

Look at this weak shit!

http://img.fannation.com/upload/si_blog_post_images/64561/tx_cover_bigthree.jpg

LeBron literally only had one option in terms of the teams he could have gone to where he wouldn't have been the man, and he willfully chose the second banana role with that one choice. What a fucking wimp! I'll bet if the Lakers had had the money he would have gone there!
