Where is everyone getting music from these days? I used to use limewire, but discovered that is shit now. I prefer free, but if it was worth it I would consider paying for my downloads.
What are you all using?

I go to the record store. But, I don't like the sound quality on digital music.

I hear ya but sometimes I only like a few songs off an album so why drop $15 on CD when I don't like the whole thing?

I've been using emusic for 10 years. If there is something on a major label, I will get it from amazon. itunes will never pollute my computer.

Though the selection isn't great, eMusic is great when it comes to price.

I disagree about the selection. It is gigantic. They don't carry most major label music, but who the fuck needs to find that when it's everywhere else? 99% of the music I listen to is on eMusic.

Don't get me wrong. They have a huge selection of good music. But half the time I go looking for a specific song, they don't have it.

Holy shit, songs are like a buck or more! I dont know if I can handle going straight from "free" music to paying over a buck a song
I want a subscription service like Rhapsody that works in Canada. I dont mind paying, but not that much.

Check eMusic.com. The more you pay up front, the cheaper they are. I think some plans end up being as low as like 25-50 cents a song. Maybe less. It's been a long time since I've used them. Rhapsody is cheap, but once you stop paying, you no longer have the songs.
I did a quick search. It looks like their basic service gives you 50 songs for 12 bucks a month. And like I said... You get to keep them.

I have an "grandfathered-in" plan and get tracks for 41 cents (75 tracks per month $30.99).
Pros:
Huge variety of independent labels from all over the world, and they have added a lot of major label material over the last year, and a shit ton of audiobooks, comedy.
You can redownload tracks you have already paid for at no extra charge.
New music is added at an alarming rate.
It's great for discovering new music.
NO DRM!
Cons:
Not a lot of modern major label stuff.
Labels will occasionally drop from the service, so if you see something you want, get it while you can. This also effects redownloading bought tracks.
Constant message board trolling by idiots who can't find Justin Beber and whatever other horseshite is popular at the moment.

I understand. I feel the same way. I was mostly just referring to quality. And I also understand that some music is hard to come by too, so sometimes you need something for that.

If you're looking to get a cd without paying for it google the name and mediafire or rapidshare, or run the same search in the google blog search.

OK, I have decided to use iTunes for managing my music, and torrents for getting the music. HOLY FUCK is iTunes a shit program. How did it become so fucking popular? I have spent the past two nights trying to get it to work right, to sync with my phone, to sync with my music folders. What a piece of shit.
At least the music was reasonably priced :innocent:

I hated iTunes when I first installed it for my iPod. I had previously just used Winamp and never could stand big bulky programs like Windows Media Player. I got used to iTunes pretty quick though. I never have any problems with it. It's a hell of a lot better than the Zune's horrifically shitty software.

To try to manage my music library. That was what my original post was about, what everyone is using for music these days. It seems the entire world is using iTunes, but I am too retarded to get it to work for me.
I would love an alternative as long as it is not some obscure linux based fancy-shmancy thing. I want simple and functional. All I want to do is be able to sync my phone with my library without having a fucking degree.

When my wife made the mistake of owning an iPod, we went through the same shit. I ended up finding the shareware program ephpod, which was great. This was 5 years ago though. If it is not available for new versions, I would find a shareware music manager; I think there are a lot of them out there.
And not to be snarky, but you're original post was about where to download music from.

Feel free to be snarky - you are right. I (as stated earlier) am clearly retarded, no only in my itunes usage, but now my posting.
I am getting worse by the minute........

I see people posting "iTunes is shit", and I have to say I kind of scratch my head in puzzlement, because I've never had trouble using iTunes, either on a PC or a Mac. It's always done the job I need it to do well,, though I do admit it's way too much of a resource hog.
But I see people say things like "OMG iTUNES FUCKS UP YOUR COMPUTER", and I have no idea what they could possibly mean. I've tried alternative programs like Winamp and Songbird, but I always go back to iTunes. So what's wrong with iTunes, exactly?

That's my only complaint about it. In my pre-iPod days, I was so used to using small programs like Winamp to play music that I thought iTunes and Windows Media Player were unnecessarily massive programs that wanted to become the default players for everything on my computer. I don't mind iTunes now though. I guess upgrading to a better computer probably helped.

It's because it's an apple product. I have no problems with iTunes on my Mac never used it on a PC so I can't comment on that.

I have a Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 android phone, my wife has an HTC legend, and my daughter has a Creative something or other MP3 player.
I have actually ditched iTunes now and moved to the Sony version that came with my phone. It is Media Go, and I am kind of digging it so far. It works perfectly fine on all three devices, and is a little more intuitive than I found iTunes to be.

Has anyone tried mulve? It looks like an app that will grab single mp3 files.
And you don't have to share back. The makers are hush on how it works. My guess is it uses spider algorithms like seeqpod did.

And I think I found out why it's not out there. It is not a full song.
Shaver sings the themes to the Adult Swim Television show, Squidbillies. The opening themes, collectively called "Warrior Man", are only a stanza long and end with a sotto voce spoken word portion. The end credits theme is a banjo instrumental.

Toon songs can be hard to find. I had a hard time finding The end credits theme of The Ren & Stimpy Show - Big House Blues
