Sure its buzzing sound but if you watch premier league, hooligans are constantly chanting creating a low human buzz for entire matches too... gonna outlaw hooligans and their songs?

i think they are unpleasant and I prefer the singing, but at the same time you must let them do what they want if they're hosting.

If it bothers you just mute the sound. Don't really need to listen to announcers babble on about a 0-0 tie.

My vote lies somewhere between Option 2 and Option 3... I don't give two shits about soccer, but I am trying really hard to give a shit about the World Cup, and these horns are definitely not helping that happen.

I am a fair weather soccer fan (every 4 years for the World Cup)

The amount of ties really could be an issue for soccer gaining mass acceptance in the US. We hate ties. Whenever there's a tie in the NFL, which happens maybe every 3 or 4 years, people go apeshit crazy and demand something be done to prevent this.

I haven't checked, but I'd imagine that so far more of these games have ended in ties than given a clear victor.

I count 14 matches played so far, and only 2 of those ending in a "nil - nil" tie.

Uruguay/France, and Ivory Coast/Portugal.

the players seem to hate them too. i think van persie got a yellow for continuing play after the whistle, although he claims he couldn't hear it due to the horns.

I'm a well known non-sports fan, but I just found it funny that soccer fans are pissed about some horn, but most feel that soccer hooligans, drunken antics, fist fights and other instruments are par for the course.

As someone who just scans the news, the ONLY thing I'm hearing about are these horns. No other stories are making the front pages of the sites I check, so that's sad for the sport itself too.

11 of the 28 teams that have played so far did not score a goal.

But back on topic... all stadiums should ban fans from using "artificial noise makers". Fuck the annoyance to the tv and radio audience... you don't want to be the poor bastard stuck in front of a group using those damn things.

They've been selling these "vuvuzelas" during mardi gras for years, and they're loud and annoying as hell.

Cheer, chant, sing, yell, clap, stomp till your feet bleed... but enough with the thunder sticks, cowbells, vuvuzelas and shit inside of stadiums.

i oppose them because you can't tell what team people are supporting with them. it's just a constant drone with no differentiation between rooting for or against a particular team. i think it kind of adds to the tension for corners or free kicks, but that's about it.

It's their thing. If the games were not in SA nobody would be exposed to, or complaining about them. Let them have their ways.
I've been to matches in Europe and South America. The chanting and singing is truly amazing.
Ever hear 50,000 people scream "Hijo de puta" in one voice when the ref blows a call? Really cool.

They have their horns, real soccer fans sing and chant, and we Americans have nothing except following along with the pre recorded "We Will Rock You".
That is by far the worst of the lot.
