Normally I'm a pretty smart cookie but when it comes to computer issues I'm bordering on retarded. So, when you explain things to me please keep that in mind and use language like you would with an autistic 8 year old.

My laptop is infected with something called "Antispyware Soft". The sad thing is that I think I know exactly how I got it and it was something I did that was so monumentally stupid that I won't even go into it.

Anyway, it gives me bogus pop-up warnings that my laptop is infected and it directs me to the Antispyware Soft site where they try to sell me the cure for it. Now I'm not that stupid that I don't recognize this scam but the thing takes over everything and won't let me go to any other sites. It constantly redirects me to its own site. I tried to go to the Uninstall function to see if I could do anything but it won't allow it.

The only way I'm able to do anything is to restart my laptop in Safe Mode and revert it to an earlier date. This seems to work for a couple of hours but them it rears its ugly head again. I've done a Google Search for "Antispyware Soft" but some of the results look like scams themselves and I'm afraid to download anything for fear of making things worse.

What's an easy, and preferably free, fix or download that I should be looking into? Thank you in advance geeks.

EDIT: The latest thing. I just Googled "Antispyware Soft" again. Now when I click the Google results it seems to direct me to completely random sites other than the ones Google throws up there. Arrrrrrggggghhhhh!

Oh, I forgot. I do have Symantec Antivirus installed and I run the scan and it says it finds some files called "backdoor" something or other which it can't delete but instead quarantines. But this seems to do jack shit because eventually the Antispyware Soft pop-up shows up again.

Had the same stupid shithe a few weeks ago. Norton missed it. Annoying isn't it? In the unlikely event that Mr. Upshaw's fix doesn't work, d/l Malwarebytes, boot to Safe Mode and run a full scan. Wipes it right off. Good luck.
Edit - Whoops the link says basically the same thing.

before someone posts a pic of apple, the best things to do is run combofix and then follow it up with either spybot or malware
