We all know the story. We've all decided how we feel about it, but we all still need a reference.
It's set to Sunday, but actually it'll probably hit and surpass it today in real numbers but the military actions in Iraq and Afghanistan have officially cost One Trillion dollars. Now I know you're all smart people. But how many of you have seen one trillion dollars? Or even a billion. It's not really real to people because there's no real reference.
If you spent $1,000 per day, you would spend $365,000 in a normal year. You would spend $36,525,000 in a century (assuming 25 leap years per century). So, if you started spending $1,000 per day starting January 1, 0000, you would finally reach one billion dollars a little more than one-third of the way through the 28th century. Do that 999 more times and that gets you to one trillion dollars.
A trillion dollar bills laid end to end would reach the sun or you spend a dollar per second for 32,000 years. If you were a trillionaire. You could technically call yourself a millionaire one million times over. You'd be a billionaire times one thousand. I'm looking at you Oprah.
This is a hundred dollar bill. Our largest common circulated note..

Believe it or not, this next little pile is $1 million dollars (100 packets of $10,000). You could stuff that into a grocery bag and walk around with it.

While a measly $1 million looked a little unimpressive, $100 million is a little more respectable. It fits neatly on a standard pallet...

And $1 BILLION dollars is impressive (Mind you we're way past Anthony Cumia type money...)

Next we'll look at ONE TRILLION dollars. This is that number we've been hearing so much about. What is a trillion dollars? Well, it's a million million. It's a thousand billion. It's a one followed by 12 zeros.
It's what we've spent in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Those pallets are double stacked.... with $100 bills. Next time we hear uninformed morning radio hosts yell about wasted money, taxes and where it's going think about it.
