View Full Version : Same Guy, different commercials

Is it just me or has anyone else noticed a rash of the same actors in the different commercials? I'll give a couple of examples:

The first one is Not Patton Oswalt

This guy looks like a more handsome version of Patton Oswalt, but it's not him. He's best known for being nameless Postal Delivery Guy in the USPS flat-rate shipping ads, and also the Fake Verizon Guy in anti-Verizon-FIOS cable ads.

then there's Mustache Guy

He was in The Hangover, as the father in the elevator with the guys when they're moving the tiger, but he's also been in a USPS ad with Not Patton Oswalt, a Hanes T-shirt commercial (Bacon Neck) and a Lowe's Ad.

Cancer Patient

Right now he's in a toyota sienna minivan ad as the father of the family, but he was also in a lot of Sonic commercials, usually with one of the girls they constantly use in the ad. Known for being tall, skinny, balding, and wearing glasses too big for his face.

Anyone else see actors who are in multiple ads?

I hate them all because they are making a goddamn fortune doing these.

The worst part about it was, the punchline to this post was gonna be your headshot and saying how I saw him in an America's Most Wanted re-enactment.

Define "fortune" - Mustache Guy seems to be freaking EVERYWHERE, but you can't make more than 50-100k for a campaign... right?

oh.

The weird thing is, when you said "Verizon Guy", I immediately assumed it was the FIOS guy who acts vs. Not East Side Dave. Who is another one of those guys.

The wierd looking chick who is in those annoying yogurt commercials about decadant flavors and arguing with her dry cleaner about whether she needs her pants let our or taken in is also in another commercial, I think its for fabreze or target.

Beth Littleford used to be a correspondant on The Daily Show and now you see her as bemused mom in a few different commercials.

YES! That's where I remember her from. I was like, "Wasn't she on SNL?" I also thought it was Kerri from the State too.

My favorite recent example of this is the "Thanks thinking with ya dip stick!" Bearded guy who also plays a serious doctor in another ad. I once saw those two ads in the same commercial break.

And doesn't she also love Laughing Cow cheese?

Yup.

Another thing I've seen is moderately successful television actors who fail and need a paycheck and do commercials.

Example: Joey Slotnick in the "WOW, THAT'S A LOW PRICE!" staples ad.

The guy who played the FBI guy in The Sopranos is forever showing up in commercials. I can't tell you which ones because I'm never paying attention, as I'm usually thinking to myself, or telling someone else, "Hey, that's the guy who played the FBI guy in Th Sopranos."

EDIT - This guy:

Two more examples:

NotFMJeff

Dirty blonde hair, sometimes has beard, usually has a douchey attitude. Seen in the Budweiser ad where the three guys are trash talking ("Tell 'em about your scrap book collection!"), the Capital One ad for miles (he carries the bellhop of his hotel room across the threshold - "This is awkward!") and a CiCi's pizza ad (carrying out a stack of Pies out of CiCi's)

Boston Guy

Most well known for the being "Tom", the hapless Red Sox fan in the Avis commercial (ya ready to rent some caaaaahs?) he's also been in a Nexium ad as well as a few others.

Also, what the hell is JK Simmons doing in a Farmers Insurance ad? He's been steadily working since the late 90's.

my favorite new commercial person is also my least favorite. there is a commercial for Lowe's about covering up stripes on the wall. The guy is a tool in it. But he is also the guy in the Ally bank commercials who is a dick to little kids and steals their eggs and shit. That guy rules

apparently this point might have slipped by you. Actors get paid TONS for big commercials. They usually get like 50-100K just for being in it, plus money every single time the commercial airs. If you are in 4 or 5 popular commercials you are making a couple hundred grand a year for 1 day of work

I always thought the Ally bank commercials were stealing Ron's schtick of doing the faux cruel interviews with little kids but they are (almost as) funny.

You folks forgot Optimum Spokesmodel Guy.

http://derangedshaman.files.wordpress.com/2010/06/optimumguy.jpg

He's also now Old Navy circus ringmaster guy, was on Rescue Me as a fireman from a different house once or twice and, I'm told, is a regular on a soap opera.

Famous actors who are well known? They do voiceovers, but not actually act in the commercials. A-List starts and even high B-list stars (which I think JK Simmons qualifies) usually don't act in commercials stateside because it's a hit to their credibility for acting roles.

As I said - Simmons has been acting with regularity since he was Schiller in OZ. He went from Oz to L&O to the SpiderMan movies to The Closer. He really had no reason (unless he's piss poor for money) to act in the Farmers' commercials. If anything, it's a career hit.

My favorite non-commercial bit for the Optimum Spokesguy is his role as the host of "The Steam Room" sports segments on The Onion's website...

Mustache Guy shaved the mustache and is recently in a Healthy Choice Ad.

New guy:

Bud Light Oil Change Guy is also the same as the Honda Odyssey Minivan Guy with the rock and roll (with the explosions and the big guitar riffs)

Aaron Takahashi

He's been in commercials for State Farm, McDonald's, Amp'd, Sears, and La-Z-Boy.

I thought I saw him in an Esurance commercial too, but I can't confirm it.

There's a little blond girl that has showed up in alot of commercials lately - the minivan commercial that her father lets her sit in the 2nd row seat because all of the bigger kids are not going. remember he says that when he was little, he had to share with a bunch of sisters and she says that would be cool.

anyway, she has been in like 3 more - look for her. Everytime you see her you must take a drink!

These are going back a bit but the black guy ( Wayne Wilderson ) played the grapes in the Fruit Of The Loom ads and also WaMu commercials where all the old guys are competeing for his buisness ( I think that was the premise ).

Was also in Seinfled and The Office.

His name is Wayne Wilderson. According to imdb, the played Martin in two episodes in 2006.

Edit: Looks like he also played "Priest" in one episode of Lucky Louie.

Along those lines (but not quite) is Elizabeth Moss in the Excedrin commercial. I say not quite because I don't think she did it recently. She looks to be about the age she was on West Wing in the commercial, only I don't remember it airing back then. Now it seems like I see it several times a week. I guess they dug it back up because of her more recent fame on Mad Men.

Nissan commercial, with the guy who's gonna have a baby and stretches his Z into a Maxima, it also in the credit card commercial (Citi? Chase? not sure) where the guys have a digital camera and a weather balloon. Also in that ad: I think it's Dan Frischman, who played Arvid on "Head of the Class".

The guy in the progressive ads without flo (70's Hipster Guy) is also in a verizon ad for the LG revolution/Green Lantern crossover. He's trying too hard to be Isiah Mustafa.

Also, the guy who has the Boombox in the Progressive Ads (disco dude) was also the Got Milk "Aaron Burr" guy.

A bit off topic, but speaking of Progressive ads... The "wow seriously" chick from a year or two ago was the rocker girlfriend on Saved By the Bell college years. There's an animated gif around here somewhere that shows her better, but I can't find it.
