New York beat out three other regions -- Miami, Tampa Bay and South Florida -- for the right to hold the NFL's championship game.
How are Miami, Tampa Bay and South Florida three different regions?
And who exactly is "South Florida"?
USF plays at Raymond James (the Bucs home) Stadium.

Maybe they were gonna' play on the new BP Field forming out in the middle of the Gulf?
I hope the Pats are in it and win it. That should knock the Jets fans down a peg
Super Bowl in a cold weather climate. I hope it snows.
Goodell is officially a fucking idiot.

The Meadowlands do not span 2 states. They end miles before The Hudson River.

The Super Bowl shall be in New Jersey.

C'mon, epo. You know as well as anyone football is a winter sport. The teams we support have playoff games in some pretty friggin' severe weather. There are no rainouts in football. The elements are another facet of the game.
Now maybe the C.E.O's and political fat cat pussies won't show, and leave a few more tickets for the real fans.
And I hope Ozzy, or whatever fossil rocker they choose freeze their nuts off!

No one wants to admit that. They will play up the NYC angle so much to the point where Jay-Z will be the half time show closing with Empire State of Mind.

Stop lying to yourself, the Super Bowl is not designed for your "ilk".

You may be right. The Super Bowl has turned into a dog and pony show. An event where the commercials and halftime nipples are more important than the game itself.
It's a shame really.
Maybe we should go back to the NFL Championship. Winners get home field, whether it be in the Arizona desert, or the "frozen tundra of Lambeau Field".

good point, Nancy.
Football is a summer sport silly.
Its Summer in Australia when its football season.
good point, Nancy.
So here's my "big point": The Super Bowl has always had the rule of being played in warm weather and/or domed stadiums. Now New York gets the game, but what is the rationale for breaking the "rule"?
Its New York and they are special?
Its a "new stadium"?
Cold weather doesn't matter?
If I'm Minnesota and I finally get my new stadium, I immediately apply for a Super Bowl. Let's see Goodell's answer to hosting a Super Bowl in that shit.

Are you SERIOUSLY comparing Minnesota to NY?
1 Its not nearly as cold or snowy in NY than it is there
2 There are like 29mil more things you can do in NY then there..
You really are mentaly unstable.

True, but if you are Goodell you have just set a new precedent.
"I'm Kansas City and just got a new stadium, I want a Super Bowl".
Goodell is seriously mentally unstable.

Here are the 3 main main reasons why NY was awarded the SB
1: I think the NFL and its owners feel they owe the Mara's because they agreed to Rev share way back when, paving the way for todays NFL.
2: The Jets even after all of these moves .are have alot of trouble selling PSLs. Giants event.. Jets town my ass. This will help them sell it because rube Jet fans will think that having tix will get them SB tix.
3: This will get Corporations to buy the rights to the Meadowlands because they will get a ton of pub during the SBs.
Not saying its right but thats the case.
This is far more a Giant SB than it is a Jets.
Hell, Woody almost fucked it up this year with his coin flip bitch fest.
Jets were like Phil Jackson on this one..
Just riding coattails.

I used to have the Madden-esque belief that football in severe weather is awesome, but I've definitely changed since I've become a bigger fan. Football in heavy rain, or snow totally changes the game and quite honestly (except for rare occassions) makes it pretty boring as it often diminishes (or completely removes) the passing element.

I'll disagree.
Let's say the Super Bowl is Buffalo v Green Bay (It's hypothetical, you asses)
Both teams have been playing and practicing for months in the cold. They are acclaimated to the conditions. They will deal with it.
Add Tampa or Arizona to the mix and well, sucks for them.
It's football you bunch of Nancy's!!

I'm not saying there's a certain advantage/disadvantage for cold/warm weather teams regarding the superbowl. All I'm saying is I much prefer to watch a football game when weather isn't a factor, and for that reason I prefer the game be played in warm weather or a dome.

I think it's about time they started rotating the Super Bowl location. I'd like to see each new stadium get it, much like the MLB All-Star Game. If there aren't any recently new stadiums, just rotate it around so fans everywhere can attend and all NFL cities get to profit. The chances of heavy snow during the game are pretty slim anyway. Think of all the blizzard games (regular or post season) in your entire lifetime--maybe a dozen?

I just want to point out that Dallas Stadium and Fed Ex Field are farther away from the "center" of their "hometown" than the Meadowlands are to New York.
I really don't want to hear four years of bitching. It's the New York City Area. I have Jersey pride, but people arguing over geographic semantics are idiots.
The reason why the Meadowlands are in NJ are simple. There was nowhere to build a stadium that could provide access and infrastructure. Even when the Jets TRIED to build in NYC, it was shot down by the Dolans and politicians.
So New York wants a piece of the pie? Fuck 'em. They had their chance.

The only other stadium is Jacksonville...not exactly South Florida.
I hope they get inches of snow and negative degree temperatures that whole weekend. I would love to see how many of the corporate fuckjobs that dont even care about football would put up with that shit to watch a Super Bowl. Id bet the Stadium would be half empty and it would be a HUGE black eye to the league. Maybe then the NFL will do something to start allowing actual football fans to go see the Super Bowl.

It's not even a comparison.

I kind of like the idea of a super bowl in NJ/NY...would not mind seeing a super bowl in a blizzard. It would be different. I say every stadium should get 1 shot. I hate super bowls in domes.
I say great. It is going to be a hugh mess around NY for those 2 weeks but fuck it.
Maybe then the cunt of a mayor here would stop cutting every dam thing.

This.
The conference championships are more exciting than the shitty Super Bowl because the elements and/or home field comes into play -- LIKE EVERY OTHER SPORT.

Goodell says more cold-weather Super Bowls possible (http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/story/13457105/goodell-says-more-coldweather-super-bowls-possible?tag=headlines;other)
NFL commissioner Roger Goodell says the success of the 2014 Super Bowl slated for Meadowlands Stadium will determine whether more championships are played at undomed cold-weather sites.
Goodell spoke at commencement ceremonies Saturday for the University of Massachusetts Lowell, where he accepted an honorary doctorate for his father, the late Sen. Charles E. Goodell of New York.
The commissioner was introduced by Robert Kraft and stood with the New England owner after the ceremony. The Patriots play outside at Gillette Stadium.
On Tuesday, the league awarded the 2014 championship to the new $1.6 billion home of the Jets and Giants.
Kraft, who supported the decision, said "the elements should be part of the game."
I can't say this enough, but Roger Goodell is the worst commissioner in the history of sports.

Would you feel better about it if every SB venue had to have a slide in it?

That's just stupid. Shouldn't you be busy crying about Joe Giardi's inability to manage a bullpen with a 6 run lead?

the whole outside in the elements super bowls will only be problematic if one of these happens while theres snowy or blizzard like conditions
2 dome teams or southern teams make the game
1 northern team used to playing outside vs a dome team or southern team
then the media, fans, etc will be playing up the unfair advantage although every game including the playoffs prior to that has the potential for that advantage
and for the 2 dome/southern teams the game could be shit play wise cause neither is used to or suited to playing in those elements, like the saints offense wouldnt be as effective if they played last years super bowl in gillette stadium during a snow storm or at least had one prior to game
but you could also say the same thing about how things are now and that northern teams are getting screwed because they built their teams and how the run their offenses based on where they play and that element gets taken out of the equation come super bowl time
i wont complain much about that since the giants won 3 super bowls under those conditions, just bringing up the potential other side of the argument
