There is a good reason they didn't upgrade. From 8.0 to 8.1 to 8.5 to 8.6 many third-party peripherial manufacturers' equipment became incompatible with between updates.

Of course, the Mac OS is plug-n-play but... yeah, Apple is great.

Also, when you try to upgrade, the talking pteradactl spinning the hard drive gets grouchy.

Anyone know what PCI-USB cards I can buy that will definitely work in these computers? Where the fuck can you find drivers these days?

They are the beige G3s using OS 9.1 (contrary to what I said before)

I *think* with OS 9 (or maybe even 8.6) they released an extension that enabled generic USB PCI cards to work. I'm not 100% sure though as I haven't used OS9 as my primary OS since March 2001.
