Im not putting this in the droid thread since its for both platforms

I just noticed that this finally hit the market.

Square is the name on Android Market, im not sure for the iphone, but I am assuming its the same. I read a year or so ago in the paper that some people were making this. I thought it would have been a small thing that never got big. Now I see it will be. The only problem is, is that it is for smartphones(apple and android) so far. There are a lot of users of each but not everyone, but a lot of people DO know some friends or someone who has one.

This app will allow you to accept a credit card payment as a personal payment via your phone.

Yes, they give you everything for free. The only fee is added once a payment is made. Kind of like a sales tax.

There is two links below. The first is for the actual site. The second is for when you sign in and need to sign your bank account up. I couldnt find it in the actual setting screen, and had to find it through the faq, support page. You do need to sign up for a Credit Check in order to get the actual card reader. Or else you will get a higher percent taken out if you manually entering the numbers on your phone.

I do believe this is a great step forward towards a paperless economy.

...did you really tag the thread with your own self-depreciating tags?

Sorry, but it looks gay to me. The only upside is if you are selling a used fridge on craigslist or kijiji you can accept payment through your phone.

Up here in Canada the direct pay interac network is huge and paying with cash is pretty much dead. The only people that dont take debit cards now are drug dealers and hookers (although occasionally you can find one that take cigarettes and a ride home in trade).

Dont see the appeal of the service.
