Pro football Hall of Famer Lawrence Taylor has been arrested on suspicion of rape in New York, CBS reported Thursday.

Taylor, 51, was arrested by Town of Ramapo police after being accused of raping a person in the Holidome Hotel in Montebello.

I thought it was 10 years ago. I think they met that at a 21 and over establishment and he assumed she was of age. I just don't like to group a statutory rapist (who is unaware of the girls age) with a real rapist or child molestor.

We're told Lawrence will not deny he was in the same room as the 16-year-old prostitute, but his lawyer will argue Lawrence did not have sexual intercourse -- an element of third degree rape.

As one source put it, Lawrence engaged in a "masturbatory act" and that was it.

According to New York law, "A person is guilty of rape in the third degree when ... he or she engages in sexual intercourse with another person less than seventeen years old."

As noted in the story, if Taylor didn't actually fuck the whore, it doesn't meet the requirement for 3rd degree rape, which would greatly reduce whatever punishment he faces. However, there was a condom found in the room, so if testing proves that's LT's jizz, his story might be a little harder to prove. Unless he just likes jacking it with a condom on. Some guys are into that, I guess.

In any case, I'm not sure this defense works any better than the "I didn't know she wasn't 18, and her pimp scared me" defense some have offered on his behalf.
