For instance, it's cinco de mayo and I will be having tacos tonight.
On St. Patrick's Day I ate corned beef and cabbage and shephards pie and potatos.
I don't think I've had shephards pie on any other day other than St. Patrick's Day.
Same thing goes for egg nog. I only drink it around Christmas/New Years. Yesterday I had a sudden craving for it, but thought it was silly because it's not winter.

Yeah I do this. I bought some corn chips today because its Cinco De Mayo. Lamb on Easter, I have a corned beef and cabbage tradition every Super Bowl. Just an excuse to eat specific foods really.

Stuff like that never even enters my mind. I won't be doing anything Mexican today, anything Irish on St. Pats, and I'll buy a birthday cake whenever I feel like it.

No, I eat what I want when I want to. I could care less what the calendar says I am supposed to eat.

I eat when I'm hungry
I drink when I'm dry
And if moonshine don't kill me
I'll live 'til I die

Except for Corned Beef and Cabbage around St. Patty's day and a Thanksgiving turkey I can't think of another holiday where I assign a food to it.
Christmas can be chicken, beef, ham or any mixture of these, same with Easter although a ham is much more certain to be on the menu.

What? No turkey?

easter's all about the lamb. christmas should be all prime rib.
My wife and I are serious foodies. We really find the dinner table a great way to celebrate w/ friends and family. The major holidays are a very big production, as we invite 20-25 people over at least. And even small, stupid things like Cinco de Maya and Bastille Day, draw a crowd of friends. We don't spend a ton of money, but we get many people over, just because it's fun and a break from the everyday routine. How many times in your life are you going to eat the same "blah" food? There's a world-wide organization called "slow food" whose mission is to combat fast food and preserve local dining habits. Did you know that the food in Northern Italy is vastly different from that at the southern end? And not one dish is a fucking vodka "pink" sauce! Every chain restaurant just recycles the same stupid menu of nachos, wings and sliders. Yes we ate tacos tonight, but from fresh ingredients (and totally different from the Taco Bell versions) and w/ homemade tamales.

Isn't the tuscan part of Italy (north) have much spicier foods?

Really. That whole post came off very 'let them eat cake'-ish.

I had my TB tonight, and man it was good.
Though, I do enjoy a more upscale taco too. But on a budget TB is pretty wonderful.
