My stove is over 20 years old so I can't really rely on it, temperature-wise. I can never depend on the time given in recipes.
Now, I put in a specific temperature and all my meat dishes come out perfect.
Best kitchen tool I bought and it only cost $16!!

I don't have the same one, but I have a similar one. It really was great. WAS! Mine crapped out after a while. I hope yours works out better. If it does, please let me know. I really want a new one, but I want to know it's going to last for at least a year.

Oh, and for the good ones I've gotten in the past few years... My slow cooker (always had one, but the newer models are very nice), Ziplock freezer bags (both the quart and gallon sizes do wonders for saving money, when buying food in bulk), and my inexpensive (about $18) Farberware Santoku knife.

My garlic zoom or my citrus press. I use them both multiple times daily.

Most useful tool in the kitchen that I own...Global 8 inch Chef's Knife.
2nd would be the Bamboo Cutting Board underneath it.

Nope... Just video of a method that I've used before.
You tap the hard boiled egg on one side and remove a piece of shell. Do the same to the other side. Hold egg in one hand, blow thru hole on one side of egg, catching the flying hardboiled egg with the other. Takes about 10 seconds to do.

I have found rolling them under my palm with enough pressure to crack shell as you roll it away and then back. Shell is still on, but all cracked. Then comes off it one or two big pieces, all cracked in tiny pieces, but attached to the thin skin between shell and egg.

They sure will. Make sure you don't find out by screwing up a meal. I try to check them in boiling water first if I'm doing an important meal. You can also see if it's off a bit since we all know water boils at 212°F at sea level.
(However, for every 500 feet above sea level, water boils about at 0.9F less. At 1,000 feet, then, water boils at about 210.2; at 2,000 feet, about 208.4; at 3,000 feet, about 206.6, etc. )

Correct way to test thermometers is a lot of ice in water.

true but not all cooking thermometers have a range that goes that low since they are more for high temp use. My method was to at least make sure it's not 10 or 20 degrees off which would ruin a meal. a degree or two either way won't make a huge difference

Probably my slow cooker. Started a pot of chicken soup before I left for work in the morning. Maybe my stand mixer. It just does so much, including grinding meat. I'm looking to get a pressure cooker soon.
Probes fail if you get water in them. Have to be careful when washing them.

i have had a ton fail when i use it on meat on the grill. seems like the high heat of the grill breaks the probe part

I use mine on the grill and in my smoker to monitor the grate temp. usually pinching the wire with the grill/smoker lid is what gets them.

Is that some kind of heat resistant cord leading to the probe? I left my probe thermometer out on the grill and it rained. I bought one to replace it and the second time I used it I crimped the probe cord in the oven door and it melted through and snapped. I'm not buying another one until I find a crimp proof probe.
