OK, I'm 50 and not up to tech speed. My blackberry 8330 is on its last legs and I'm due for a Verizon upgrade. What do I do?

I use my phone for work and email, but would like a good browser phone and maybe one that can stream a ballgame if available.

Also would like one that can open files I receive (Cad Pdf, etc.)

Thanks for any help.

Most folks would go with the Droid. It seems to be the phone of choice. I just recommend you try out the keyboard to see if you like it for the sake of ergonomics.

You can stream the ballgame via MLB At-Bat 2010 for Android, and you can also get Slingbox on it soon.

Great thanks.
Have you used the Droid yourself, and what do you think of the storm2?

I can always delay the decision with a rebuild for a few months. But its still a delay, not a decision.

I like the concept of the droid, but the keyboard's ergonomics are the #1 reason why I didn't get it. Of course, I have very large hands. Everyone on this board who has it (Death Metal Moe, Paulisded, AngryMissy, FM Jeff, and DH 215, just to name a few) speak very highly of the droid. Paulisded and DH 215 especially like the At-Bat app. I have the At-bat app for the Itouch and I love it.

I ended up getting a touch pro 2... which is OK, but not great. I'm not a big fan of the Windows Mobile interface. What I usually do with my phone is turn on it's wifi, connect my Ipod Touch, and do all my surfing on the go that way.

I've never used Blackberry so I couldn't give you a recommendation that way.

We should have an answer for the Verizon Iphone by the summer or so.

Wait... what carrier are you on? VZW or something else?

Droid is only available on VZW. If you are Sprint, I'd go with the Moment.

I can't speak for Blacky Huge hands over here, but I have no issue with the Droid's keyboard with my dainty, dainty fingers.

I got the new Bold and am not impressed with it. They have dropped the ball with the keyboard, though the trackpad is a distinct improvement. After having a few 'berrys, I am definitely going with a Droid next time around unless Blackberry gets its game back between now and 2013

I'm pretty much committed to sticking with Verizon, so I will stop by a store today and try out a Droid. I believe they have a trial period during which I can return it if my pickle fingers can't work the keyboard.
The at bat sounds like a selling point. Thanks for the help. Ill post an update.

I have a Droid on Verizon and use it for all the features you request as well as to use the ustream viewer to listen to Ron and Fez on Rhino's stream of the show. It has met and exceded my expectations. It has several bells and whistles that I like and lacks a few things I wouldnt mind having (flash animation for one) but over all very satisfied.

I just recently used the return clause when I bought the Devour last month and returned it for the Droid. No issues at all, I just said I didn't like it, but be aware, they will charge you a $25 restock fee if you do an exchange for a different phone.

I went from a Curve to the Droid and I love the Droid. I was pulling the battery daily on my bbery, I never have issues like that with the Droid, and it is a MILLION times faster than the bbery, plus tons of great apps.

I have the Storm and I fucking hate it. Supposedly the Storm 2 is better, but I'm sick of shitty blackberrys.

I'm also due for an upgrade, but am waiting until the end of the month for when the Nexus One and HTC Incredible come out on Verizon.

Gah, don't get the Droid. The Nexus One, which uses the new snapdragon processor and has full support for the new Android OS versions is coming to Verizon in a matter of weeks. The Droid is outdated and slow compared to all new Android handsets that are being released. Just wait a few days and don't buy an outdated piece of hardware when the next gen is right around the corner.

I know technology moves quickly but how can you even try to call the Droid, a phone that's only a few months old, outdated and slow?

Right now it's the premier smart phone on the Verizon network. Others will come along eventually but I'm pretty certain the Droid will stay on top for awhile.

OH silly me, the guys at the gym probably told TrollLordJezo that the Droid was yesterday's news.

So that means it's gotta be true. Then they all got scared about bread and held each other.

Poor Palm, the Pre gets no love anymore.

I've had a Palm Pre for almost a year now, and love it. The Pre Plus is dirt-cheap on Verizon right now and I think they have a deal on the Mobile Hotspot feature (turns your phone into a WiFi hotspot for up to 5 devices).

While streaming baseball might not be possible, it should have everything else you're looking for along with the best cellphone OS on the market. Flash support is due "soon", which might allow you to view games

The Droid CPU is slow and is an older generation of hardware.

Everything coming out now uses the Snapdragon processor which is twice the clockspeed. Buying the Droid at this point is a stupid decision when every new Android device coming out is much faster.

You have the Intel Core 2 as your avatar.

It's the same concept. Outdated, being phased out, and not something anyone should consider. Why would anyone buy a Droid knowing that the next round of hardware is ready to be released? Buying a phone is serious business. Buying a phone that puts you a generation behind is just silly.

Intel C2QUAD, might i remind you. And it still kicks like a mother.

Why buy any phone when the next big thing will be released jerk off. It a non stop cycle. If you are really retarded enough to be like that, youll never own a phone. youll always be waiting.

And the droid has a shit ton of unlocked potential. and that incredible might have as many problems as the nexus one did.

Well, since you asked...

Tech heads are creaming for evo. And the pricetag of the Evo vs. what the pricetag for the Verizon Iphone is going to be the game breaker.

Regular people - millions of them - want the ease of the Iphone on the best network in the country. Period.

i think you meant to say waterheads.

Not everyone is a tech geek, mexi. They just want their phone to work. The Ipod Touch works for me. it works for a LOT of people.

Yes, kicks ass now but has been phased out. Core i(3,5,7) are all that matter now and is the hotness that will get you chicks.

I'm not talking about waiting for some unreleased product that "might" come out. Snapdragon is here now and it's what all phones going forward are going to use for a while. Getting an outdated phone when the new stuff is already on the market just seems silly.

FWIW - It doesn't have a keyboard. As a former bbery user myself, I needed a keyboard, even if it's a crappy one.

Also, don't get into the whole "MUST HAVE NEWEST PHONE" deal, you can never be satisfied if you have that mentality.

Sorry that I happen to know about the latest and greatest phones and not trying to force people to stay with old technology.

You are living in the past with your Droid, don't hold others back just because you made a mistake in your phone purchase.

Buying a phone is the biggest decision a person can make in their life. Rushing into it is a huge mistake.

It's funny, though; after using an iPhone so long, I find myself really unable to use an external keyboard. If I did go Android, I'd probably need to go with something with an onscreen keyboard, like the Nexus One (which is actually a sweet phone).

I guess I could rapidly learn to use an external keyboard again, and I do like the Droid. I'd just rather stay onscreen for now.

Yeah, you're right about that. I think I'd rather have a phone that doesn't have one, though, to sort of make it a little sleeker and more streamlined.

That said, the one keyboard I absolutely despise is the one on the Storm. They do this strangely half-assed thing of having an on-screen keyboard with an actual physical response, and it annoys the fuck out of me.
