Please use this thread for news, questions and discussions about the iPad. If you're looking to just slam Apple, please use the It's So Ugly (aka the I Hate Apple thread).

Is it possible to ban a user from one specific thread?

He did start another thread. I merged them because we're not going to have pro and anti threads on subjects.

Haven't gotten one, but I do know several people who have one, and I've really gotten to play with it in some depth.
In landscape mode, I can almost do actual touch typing, but even in portrait, I can type fairly well with one hand.
It is just a little awkward at first. It's heavier than you kind of expect it to be, especially if you've handled a Kindle or a similar device.
The experience of surfing the Web, especially if you go to a site that's gone to HTML5 as opposed to shitty Flash, is really really sweet. It's very fast, and quite responsive.
It's inevitable that I will buy one of these at some point.

I could say that I didn't want a pro and anti thread for the iPhone, and another two threads for the Ipad, etc.
I could also say that having one I Hate Apple thread makes sense and that I changes my mind.

I'm digging the iPad. It's nice to see that someone has broken away from the 20 year old paradigm. It's the first generation, but I can't wait to see what happens next.

Looks like the iPad has been jail broken, It won't be long until the software is made public for others to do it.

I saw a guy in the night class I take with one of these last night. As we all went on break he left the iPad on his desk unguarded. Thought that was kinda stupid, the things are a little pricey.

I finally got to play with one for a few minutes. It's pretty cool. It really is more than a big iPod. He also had the option to run Windows over the Mac os. That worked really well too.
Good stuff.

I've used it in my ER. Had a kid today with stomach pains. She was moaning & feeling bad. But after playing with it for about 5 minutes, she was totally distracted from my exam or drawing blood. She was watching Avatar on it while I examined her, and playing with a free keyboard app while we drew her blood.
If you get one, and want to see how it could be used for education, download the ELEMENTS app. It shows just how this damn thing can be used to make educating kids fun.Only downside is that its too expensive( it might come down in price later)

I doubt it'll ever come down in price: rather, next generation, they'll be a 32GB for $499, 64GB for $599, and probably 128GB for $699. The price points will stay the same, the specs will improve.
And, yes, that Elements app is bad ass.

Has anyone tried one of the knock off ipads? I have read about irobot 7" version called epad or apad something like that for around $100-$150 on ebay and tech sites. Zenithink has one that is 10" for around $200-$250. They both come with similar specs to the ipad. They come with webcams, 256 mb ram and expandable memory up to 32 gb (sd or micro sd card expandable) They all come with the android operating system.
Anyway i just wanted to see if anyone has tried one and if so what did you think. I was thinking about getting one to use as an e-reader and for travel.

A couple of things I'd wonder about with the really cheap-ass tablets: first, what version of Android does it run, and can it be upgraded? Early builds of Android, like early versions of any OS, were pretty buggy.
Secondly, I've heard that on some of these tablets, you don't have access to the full Android Marketplace, but some crappy fake-ass version of it that doesn't have nearly as many apps. So be careful there too.
All in all, I doubt it's worth it. It's cheap, yeah, but if you buy a piece of shit, that's still wasted money. Save up for an iPad, or see what's coming in the new Android tabs from Samsung or other people.
Or get the Blackberry Playbook...ok, not so much that one.

I wouldnt buy an ipad just because im anti apple! that being said they have android 1.7, 1.9 or 2.1. i dont know much about any of them but thats what they have. from what i understand the hardware isnt upgradable but the software might be. simialr to the ipad the ram can not be ungraded. I would wait to see what samsung has, I love their products. are they coming out with something soon? i will also look into the blackberry one you mentioned.
