Quick story:

Took my grandma out for lunch, convinced her to try a Panini for the 1st time in her life. It was an eggplant panini with tomato, mozzarella and some sort of olive spread on a bread not unlike a focaccia bread. I had it too. It was excellent and she loved it.

Now she is on this panini quest. She really wants to start experimenting with them at home and she already has a George Foreman grill she's never even opened. I see online people have used them for making paninis with mixed results so I wanted to as Ronfez.net if they have had any experience using the thing to make the sandwiches.

Thanks.

I'd try to level the grill surface so all the goodies don't dribble out.

That and the fact that I can't latch it shut were my main concerns just looking at the George Foreman grill.

My wife uses the George Foreman grill to make Panini's all the time. They come out great.

Yeah I have, they come out good. Another way is to use two skillets, I've done that as well.

Just don't leave the grill on the floor next to your bed in the morning no matter how much you like bacon...

I have an indoor grill pan. I wrap a brick in foil and place it on top and then flip it. I'm sure there would be dribble from the Forman grill.

Well since grandma is on a budget, she's using the Foreman grill with a book under the front end so shit doesn't drip out.

Problem solved.

panini is the plural of panino, not that that helps.

You're right.

It didn't help a bit.

I love to cook up a cuban sammich on the mini Foreman.
Ham
Left over roast pork (sliced thin)
Swiss
Pickles
Mustard.

Grill for a few minutes.
Enjoy the fuck out of it.

DiBruno Bros. in Philly has a panini called the Chicken Pronto that I fiend for which is grilled focaccia bread brushed on the inside with a pesto sauce with a chicken cutlet, roasted peppers, and fresh mozzarella. Unbelievable!
