Oh no. With all those people living in Nassau and Suffolk they might be in danger too.

It's kind of hard to take his second point about the environmental impact of military build-up on Guam seriously, when his initial point was that an additional 25,000 people on an island could capsize it.

This Congressman voted for the Healthcare bill too. In his defense, though, it looks like he may have smoked an herbal product to relax before the committee hearing.

It's possible, but he has a super dead-pan way of speaking. He seemed serious to me.

Capsize their interests, economy, infrastructure. Adding 25k will have an impact, is the US mitigating it? He could be a complete nut, a dramatic ass, or a political animal. Ass is the sure money.

I think if you youtube or google him you'll see he's just a plain old ordinary nut.

People make the hand across the throat gesture when they don't literally mean "kill." I haven't seen the clip or read a transcript, but crazy congress is almost redundant at this point. At least those are the only ones we hear about.

....he's right to bring it up. They want to pull all the Marines out of Okinawa ( costs, politics, soldiers getting too "friendly " with the natives, etc) and move that division to Guam . I lived in Guam ( but as a baby, so I don't remember it) but those troops would swell the population of the island up to 40%.But they're using the same infrastructure from WWII!! Wish I remembered it, because its lovely now, but acc to my Dad, it was a small dink of an island with NO amenities then.

he's not talking about the marine's impact on the island's infrastructure, he thinks the island will tip over (his words). he has no valid point

A number of rapes of young natives over the years isn't very "friendly".

That is a touchy subject on the island but to be fair more of the military marry the locals than rape them.

If you go off-topic, have it make a god damned point. A valid off-topic point would be mentioning that the House of Representatives allows for kooks and Rep. Hank Johnson is filling the fine tradition of Rep. Cynthia McKinney whom he beat in 2006. Seriously, what the fuck is wrong with that district?

See how easy that is?

StanUpshaw

So you're associating wackiness with a congressional district.

He's associating wackiness with voting record.

How are they any different? You just take exception with one, and feel like you need to complain about it.

Marines are not soldiers. Sorry to be nitpicky but soldiers are in the Army. Having been to Oki twice and to Guam, It would be tough logistically but not impossible. I believe in the late 90's they moved the fixed wing frm Iwakuni to Okinawa. Crispy might know more about that since he was a winger.

They have been talking about closing MCAS Futenma for years, which is where the USMC KC-130s are. They were supposed to move to Kadena or there was also talk of building a runway at Camp Schwab. They are not super fond of Marines in particular there. I know a CWO that ran over a local coming back drunk from the bar about 5/6 years ago.

Wow!! I remember when Schwab was mostly grunt LAV/AAV and Recon Units. Same thing for Hansen Iwakuni was fixed wing and Futenma was helos mostly.

Those Air force guys hated when we Jarheads went to Kadena. Miss Banyan Tree

Haha, first thing I did was look up his district. He beat Cynthia McKinney. ... I see. Seriously, it's one of those districts, where the democrat always gets elected and if by some chance a whack-job gets the backing of some influential groups, he's a congressman. It's not the only one, there are plenty of those types of districts on both sides of the aisle. Michelle Bachman's comes to mind.

Heard the tape, read some of the transcripts, read the explanations.

Wow, is he dumb. Don't they prepare these questions in advance? He can't speak and is an idiot. I think we must have too many representatives if this is the caliber of people getting in.

I don't believe he wrote those explanations. They are well written, not the ramblings of an idiot.
I wish the admiral would have asked the dolt to clarify what he meant by "capsize." The congressman's speaking ability is pathetic ignoring his capsize theory, "um, the island, ah, is 7 miles wide at its, um, least widest part, from, ah shore to, um, shore." THE ISLAND IS 7 MILES WIDE AT ITS NARROWEST POINT.
Self important asses. Grandstanding hoping to get TV time or impress people there, but just embarrassing the nation.
