Did microsoft add anything to windows 7 that checks if you're using legitimate software (either microsoft or other vendors) and blocks the install or operation if you are?

I don't think so.

There's the Genuine Advantage thing, but that's not unique to Win 7.

Yeah. That just checks the validity of Windows.

Microsoft's actually doing something cool with that: if it catches your copy of Windows as being pirated, it says "Oh, you must have been taken advantage of by some scumbag who put a pirate version of Windows on your computer" and it offers to sell you a real copy at a discount.

Yeah, and it lets them really nail you later, I bet.
I don't see why you'd pirate the OS, though. OK, sure, I get it, you don't wanna shell out for Photoshop, but you can always remove that if you get a fucked up copy someone's stuck a virus in. The OS, on the other hand, controls the computer at its most basic level, and if it's fucked, so is the computer until you blow the whole goddam thing out and start all over.
I mean, if you dont' want to pay Microsoft or Apple, get Ubuntu, or another good Linux distro for free.

thx for the input
but to clear things up I'm talking about applications being borrowed (papabear got it right) and not the OS
