"Take it easy, Clarky" is derived from the genus of plants known as clarkia. Specificly it comes from the Clarkia plant itself. Clarkia is observed by its narrow leaves and ornamental red (or purple) flowers.
The plant is named after William Clark of the famed Lewis and Clark expedition 1804-1806.
On one particular day, the expedition had become very long and quite arduous. Clark was becoming irritable and somewhat hostile. With the mid-day sun burning brightly, and the sores on Clark's feet becoming ever painful, Clark was becoming crazed. He began mumbling about the ugly, (explicitive referring to the action of sex,) prairie. The words became more audible when Clark started calling Meriwether Lewis an obsenity which describes a man's alternative lifestyle. He then told Lewis to go (explicitive referring to the act of sex) a prairie dog.
Lewis then slapped Clark across the face to snap Clark out of his obvious delirium. Instead of coming out of the crazed state, Clark angrily hurled obsenities which were directed at Lewis' mother. Suddenly, William Clark started running in circles and began making sounds. The sounds closely resembled the noise a pig makes during coitus.
Lewis looked up at the seemingly endless, deep, blue sky. He then started cursing the day they left for the expedition. He called the idea of walking for two years, an idea worth -the explicitive which describes human solid excrement.
At this, Clark stopped and looked at Lewis. Clark undid his belt, lowered his pants, squatted and deficated on land never before seen by anyone from the Western World. He then grabbed a nearby plant and pulled it out of the ground. The plant had narrow leaves and ornamental red flowers. He began using the plant as toilet paper. After wiping surprisingly deep, Clark lifted the plant in the air. Clark told Lewis that he had just "discovered" a brand new plant, and then threw the excrement, smeared plant at Lewis.
The nearby, Native American, expedition guide then yelled out in broken English, "Jesus, take easy Clarky!"
The saying "Take it easy, Clarky" is still used to this day.

Thank you erole for all that.
Ummm, it's a saying that Ron came up with. I think it had something to do with the 1920's period? I am probably wrong.
I liked it and I expanded it on my sig ;)

Erole, you are completely accurate. I have a few books about that L&C story( which include a couple of old beaten up photographs -the only part in question ), and boy, they had some CRAZY experiences. I especially liked the centerfold, and the silly adds in the back! Thanks for clearing it up, and yes...mmmm...pretty flowers and fecal matter. Now, that's romance!

it's a refernece to the classic 1932 film "Clarkson goes to Hollywood" and when Jame Clarkson leaves his small town everyone comes out of their house and say "Take it Easy Clarky."
Side note, Orson Welles said it was his major inspiration for "Citizen Kane."

I found this at the library today, I thought I'd share it with you.
William Clark
Journal Log
Monday, 12 August 1805
We have been on this journey for 15 days, seeing no signs of life, man or animal. I have growing concern for my companion Meriwether Lewis. It has been some time since he has seen his family, his 15 children, and most particularly his beautiful wife Anne. It has left him quite aggitated and in need of companionship. He mumbles, and sweats quite often.
He is limping noticably from what he says is, "a heavy aching feeling around my scrotum."
Descending steeply into the valley of the Blue Stones River, one of the headwaters of the Columbia River, Lewis encountered a Shoshoni woman and two girls up ahead of us. He ran quickly toward them, while holding his scrotum and screaming like something the devil could not even bear.
When we got to Lewis, he was crying under an evergreen of such magnificence I ordered Pronto to hurry over to sketch it. Lewis was humped over with his pants mysteriously undone. There were tracks from the natives going into a bush in the distance. Lewis got up, hair askew, and oddly flustered. He said, "I don't (explicitive referring to sex) understand what happened. This has never happened before. Damn, just the smell of her (explicitive referrring to a womans genitalia or a cat) made me...made me...I couldn't help it...dang nabbit'."
When I asked him about the white substance at the bottom of the tree, he said it was only tree sap.
We discovered their village and introduced ourselves to their chief, Whiteyfoundme, who welcomed us surprisingly well. My chief guide CockCanCrow translates for me at numerous times on our expedition. My CockCanCrow told me that Whiteyfoundme was calling Lewis ComesTooEarly. I thought that they were expecting us and we arrived too soon.
next journal tomorrow.
