View Full Version : Ground Turkey Question

Last night about 7 I was going to make something for dinner with frozen turkey burgers. I took them out to thaw, usually put them in the fridge but figured it would be quicker on the counter. I decided against making the burgers and went with something else instead. I completely forgot to put them back in the fridge and they were left out all night. This morning about an hour ago I noticed I left them out and put them in the fridge.
Should I just toss them to be safe or could they still be okay? These are the factory sealed kind from Jenni-O. Part of me thinks I should just toss them but I'm not sure.
I'd toss em out. I'd rather lose a few bucks than the possibility of food poisoning.

They were frozen at 7 last night, you left them out around 12 hours, but they're still sealed?
I wouldn't worry in the least.

I'd eat them without hesitation.
We're talking mass-produced ground poultry. That's plenty of risk right there; enough that your only option is thorough cooking. So any bacterial growth that could have possibly occurred in that short window will be killed along with all of the other microbial life already present.

The more I thought about it, I wasn't going to take a chance on it. Those burgers cost probably $1 or so from the whole package so it wasn't a big deal. I hate to waste food, but I'd also prefer to not have to take trip for a stomach pumping.
