It was time to step up and get a Blu Ray player anyway. I got a head's up from Tiger Direct about this one. (http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=5398163&CatId=5180) The Samsung BD-P1590.

It's a nice full function Blu Ray player. The HDMI connectin give you an amazing picture.
But as an added bonus, you can also stream Pandora, Nexlix, Blockbuster and YouTube by simply adding the player to your network. Bonus!

Before I bought it, I did a little research. It seems the first generation of these players had a chance of bricking if you did a firmware upgrade. The ones at Tiger are fully up to date, and now give you a yes or no option if you want to upgrade.

The network connection is either a simple cat 5, or yo can go wireless. They say you must use the proprietary Samsung wireless dongle (for $80!) for that to work. Spend almost as much as the player for a wireless USB? Not Tub.

Google it!!!
Newegg has one that is compatible for only 20 bucks. I got that one. Works great.
The whole set up was from out of the box to network connectivity - 15 minutes.

I went to my online Netflix account, ut a movie in the active queue and Bam. Watching a movie. Then I spent an hour on YouTube. I haven't synched my Pandora yet, but I imagine it will be just as easy.

I'm a happy camper.

P.S. They offer you a package where for $10 more they throw in an HDMI cable. Don't bother. The player already comes with one.

Exactly. Rich people donate all sorts of good stuff and the proceeds of selling it at the Goodwill store go toward helping homeless and poor people. Of course, the cheap clothes/shoes are available for poor people to buy as well.

Pretty much dead tech at this point.

This week 3D capable Blu-Ray players were announced.

http://www.neoseeker.com/news/13101-sony-and-panasonic-announce-3d-blu-ray-players-/

So, I guess you got a nice antique, will be something to show the grand kids. Unless yours can be flashed to support 3d, then you'll be okay.

exactly. I think the only physical player that people will need in 10 years will be 3d. All the Blue-Ray or DVD will be digital.

I thought this thread title was Best 99$. The last I saw it.
I saw one at brandsmart I thought it was for that price.
What I liked about it was the card slot it had. I also like the hard drive to tv deal I saw awhile back.

if its about the best $99 deal,i know you can pick up a projector at bed bath and beyond,a much better home entertainment value than a crappy bluray.
