I just made this for desert. (it's got 2 of my favorite things...fat & booze)

A customer told me about this after having it in Italy.

Use a healthy shot of mellow single malt Scotch, a decent vanilla bean ice cream, and top with 5-10 cranks on the pepper mill.

Nice caramel flavor... not at all weird. Try it and lemme hear what you think.

Sounds very 'gastropub'. I'll give it a try.

It does sound good. Do you blend the shot with the ice cream, or just poor it over it?

that sounds good. though i never have any scotch around, i wonder how it would be with a bourbon or a canadian whiskey.

You could always get a mini bottle.

A scoop and a half of Breyer's vanilla bean (w/the pepper) in a coffee mug...poured the scotch over it and did very little mixing. (i mixed as I ate)

I'm not sure about the Bourbon...it's a little more harsh and it's really not a boozy flavor that you're going for. I'll try it (maker's mark on hand). I bet a sherry like Harvey's or some port would be nice.

i wonder how it would be canadian whiskey.

Why not just use Keystone Light?

I heard people use the red pepper you see in pizza parlors on the ice cream too. It might be good with that and the scotch. I need to try this!
I like the hot, cold and sweet combination.

Black pepper is great on a slice of watermelon, too.
