who is stern to cast judgement on people? (http://www.nypost.com/p/pagesix/idol_producers_want_howard_stern_YUKlMlwQkfqa7EgK1 nvRaN)
from the article.
"American Idol" producers are eager to hire Howard Stern to replace Simon Cowell as the show's tough-talking judge, sources tell Page Six.
An insider said that producers of the hit Fox show say Stern, America's highest-paid radio personality, is their top choice to take over from Cowell, who leaves at the end of this season. They approached the King of All Media after he repeatedly mentioned on-air that his exclusive Sirius XM Radio deal expires next January and he was open to other offers. Cowell was paid $50 million a year.
A source connected to "Idol" said, "It's one of the few shows that could compete with Stern's $100 million-a-year Sirius contract, and 'Idol' bosses think he'd be even nastier than Simon.

He hates being on TV and he hates flying. It won't happen.

I thought Tommy Mottola was the first choice to replace Simon Cowell; it would certainly make more sense than Stern. Cowell also supposedly wants Motolla for his new "X Factor" show.

There would be a curiosity factor in the beginning with Stern, but I think the ratings would fall quickly as he tried to be more and more relevant (he, of course, would blame the ratings fall on anything but himself). I think this is just part of his negotiation with Sirius and he isn't going anywhere.

I would definitely watch some of the first rounders if he was in there. I think it would be hilarious to watch him rip people apart.

If Stern thinks he's going to get anything remotely close to the contract he got from Sirius from anyone else (or from Sirius itself), he's insane.
My guess is that he just takes the Howiecopter back to the Hamptons and stays there after his contract runs out.

And thats why he'd never workout as the host of a program like American Idol. There's simply no chance in hell of hoo hoo sitting on a panel of three where the other two disagree with him. He needs Robin, BB, Artie, Fred, et al. constantly telling him how fucking wonderful he is.

Wouldn't this be a major issue to the majority of the audience? I always thought of American Idol as being biggest in the parts of the country where Stern didn't get over.
Also, I will bet money that the origin of this nonsense is a few guys sitting around tossing out any name they could think of to possibly replace Simon Cowel. I'll bet Gordon Ramsey and Kathy Griffin were on the same list, and the source is an intern who brought in the coffee.
It's the same way that Stern's name got tossed around with "Who can play the scarecrow in Batman?" Well, who's tall?
