So about 2 years ago I found this odd bump on my skin. I would call it on my groin, but its closer to my leg than my nuts. The doctor told me it was nothing to worry about, just a standard folicle bump. Every time I went in he would check it out to make sure it was still the same, and it was for the most part.

He calls me yesterday morning from some seminar he is at and tells me he needs me to come in first thing monday. They have some new info and now he wants to do a biopsy to make sure this isnt skin cancer. Which I will have left there for 2 years if it is

yea thats a tough thing to swallow buddy, i know its easier said than done but at least be thankful theres some sort of new technology/info that can maybe detect what you might have. you'll know more on monday. unproductive worrying is such a bitch, try not to agonize over it until you hear something concrete.

na I trust my doc pretty well. He checks it everytime i go in but it is really cool of him to remember. He also has my cell phone so its closer than a normal doc to most people. He is my mom's dr and my grandma's too.

I'm sure you will be fine. Its cool he rememberd and called too. Think positive. Is this a skin doctor? Maybe if after he examines it again on Monday, go to a good dermatologist for a second opinion. I have one I could recommend, but he's way out by me.
Either way, as a doctor, he would have likely recognized cancerous tissue over the years. Maybe in this seminar he learned of a new technique and it will save you trouble down the road if this is pre cancerous or whatever. I'm sure you will be fine Sean. I am posting this not trying to sound like a dick but just to knock some sense into you...... think about this rationally.... if you have had skin cancer for two years, dont you think you would have had other complications by now? There is enough knowledge about skin cancer that if it fit the description (abnormal growth, etc) your doc would have had it biopsied by now. Also, skin cancer has an extremely low mortality rate of 0.3% for non-melanoma types (you would probably know if it was melanoma by now). Finally, considering the majority of skin cancer cases are caused by sun exposure, and your bump is in a location that probably rarely/never gets exposed to sun.....need I say more?

You're a young, healthy guy and the statistics are on your side. It sounds like your doc is being an alarmist after going to a conference on skin cancer when he probably cant even remember what the bump looks like. What you should really do is kick your docs ass for scaring you over something that has a 99.999% chance of being benign. Good luck and good health my friend.

i have updates. Some are good, some are bad but unrelated.

The bump is benign but does have to come off at some point. Esp if it starts to get irritated.

However I also, since I was there, had him look at the fact hat my pelvis is misaligned and is further forward at my right hip then my left.

apparently when I originally hurt myself, the hospital missed that I had also broken my hip. Because of that they never set it, cause they are inept. So its now "healed" into the place that causes me problems and without ripping my muscles, it would require 5 or 6 surgeries to fix and about 30 months of rehab. I have to go to an ortho at some point and have xrays and an MRI and then decide my course of action. He said that as long as I dont have it fixed Ill continue to get hernias in my lower abdomen from shit being pulled around, and I also have essentially what is injury related arthritis in my hips and lower back.

i do not qualify for medicaid because im under 30 and in NJ they have laws to keep me covered if im still a dependant, however because my step fathers insurance is a federal one and not based in NJ, that law doesnt apply, and so they dropped me at 25.

I will try charity care when the time comes but im going to wait as long as I can and just fight through the pain as much as possible. The surgery will greatly limit mobility and my range and it may effect my ability to play golf, so Id like to enjoy and do as much as I can while I can still deal with the pain before I do that.

I applied for disability once because of the hernias, because if you receive disability they almost always will give you medicaid no matter what, but I was denied, and rightfully so. But maybe with this new shit I might have enough to be approved now, I dont know.

I actually know almost exactly the course of events. I fell skating, landed basically directly on my left ass cheek. Went home, went to bed, woke up and took a shit and it was bloody. Went to the hospital, they took xrays and a CT scan and told me I just had a broken tailbone. Gave me some pain pills and sent me home. Since then ive had now 2 hernias that are almost definately because of this now that I think about it. They never even once mentioned a single thing about my hip to me at the hospital.

That usually falls under a hospital's "charity care" program, which helps to care for under- and un-insured folks who need the hospital's services.

You can usually work with their billing office and the charity care program people to work out a settlement for payment in a range you can afford.

Definitely look into it, dude. Seriously. It exists, and it's there for a reason. Check around and see if there's someone you can talk to about it up front to get a sense of how things work. They will work with you. Really.

After an hour you have to stop trying. Read a book, watch a movie or tv you like and have seen before, go for a walk (physical activity relaxs mental tension). Still awake, use the time productively, your body will sleep when it needs it, just be careful about driving when sleep deprived. Naps at 60mph are fun.

do you have anyone you can talk to? not one of us, but friend/family/therapist? sometimes just getting stuff out in the open can really help.
