I must admit it's amusing, to me, when political-correctness is used against a liberal. It's like a manufactured disease being released into the population, which then infects the people that released it.

That said, there is nothing wrong with what Emanuel said. People are way too sensitive about everything. In fact, a case can be made that he was correct calling liberals retarded.

I can't speak for Dude but this was all I needed:
It's time for a real Patriot Act that brings out the patriot in all of us. We propose universal civilian service for every young American. Under this plan, All Americans between the ages of eighteen and twenty-five will be asked to serve their country by going through three months of basic training, civil defense preparation and community service.

Democrats have brought this up before. Rangel was pushing this a few years back, and Mondale before him. That's not Emmanuel, that's plain old Democrat.

Fair enough, and I don't like any of the folks you mentioned because of it. There may be other reasons to like or dislike a politician but stuff like that is an immediate deathblow for me liking you or your policies whatsoever. That shit doesn't belong in this country.

You think only liberals try to censor people? I guess Palin just became a liberal. Stop making every issue democrat or republican. Some issues cross party lines. There are jackasses in both parties that sometimes agree on stupid positions. Unfortunately, we can never get them to agree on important issues.

Isn't serving your country patriotic? Why shouldn't you have to earn your place in this great land of freedom? I am amazed at all the chicken hawks on the right. They embrace war as long as someone else is fighting it, and their taxes don't have to go up to fund it.

Maybe because it should be a non-story. The only story is how stupid it is that this is a controversy. Scrap the "whether or not iran's nuclear capabilities threaten human existence" story, we have to run with "Emanuel used the r-word."
Fucking news. Yes, even the "liberal" media sucks.

So are all and any laws. However, they are necessary to ensure a certain level of freedom.
It is not black or white. It is where you choose to draw the line in the gray.
Think compulsory service is anti-freedom? Where does compulsory education rank on the freedom scale?
How about signing up for selective service?

The idea that you may have missed was that maybe a draft or compulsory service would have people treat war seriously. Not something that is replaced in the headlines by Britney Spears shaving her head or whether Jen and Brad are getting back together.

Love it or leave it, Pinko.

You don't potentially get killed because of learning your ABC's and 123's. (I guess in some towns you may)

With that being said, if the draft were reinstated and I was called upon to go to war for my country, I would.

And I can say for myself that I take war very seriously. Everynight I pray for those in service to our country and for our leaders to make the right decisions.

With that being said, what an ass on that Jennifer Aniston.

Sure, it's patriotic, but really, you can't possibly be trying to act as if forced service is "American" in anyway. It isn't. Seriously, is that the best argument you could come up with for yourself here?

As for being on the right, no, I'm not, try again.

And no, I don't embrace war, I only believe in violence as a form of self defense. As for funding, the military is one of the very few things I'm happy with my taxes supporting. Believe it or not, not everyone who believes in this crazy "individual freedom" is on the right. Funny that a guy who argues constantly that corporations are screwing the individual would come back with a weak ass argument like this to come to the defense of someone from the Obama administration. The fact that you pretty consistently argue that people are only supporting things because their Republicans only sweetens the irony pot.

What I am amazed at is that you read into my statement what you wanted. That must cause problems for you, problems you are probably unaware of.

I didn't say you had to be on the right to be against compulsory service. I said people on the right tend to be chicken hawks. You can be a chicken hawk on the left too. I am not saying you are.
The draft has come up before Obama, so my reference was to compulsory service not, compulsory service only relating to Rahm.
What is "American?" Letting rich people literally buy their out of service in the civil war?
We are a very nationalistic patriotic society. But, when it comes to risking something for all that flag waving many people take a step back. And, I think all to often it is the most vocal proponent of military action.

Enjoy that sweet pot of irony.

Considering the fact that I never once brought up my personal beliefs on war or the military and you quoted my post specifically to respond with the point it's entirely reasonable to assume you were implying those statements about me, if that truly wasn't your intention then you have my apologies.

As for rich people literally buying their way out of service, that has absolutely zero to do with this point. The fact is that nobody should ever need to use ANY form of compulsion to remove themself from compulsory service. The entire idea of compulsory service, in any form, military or otherwise is an absolute and unjustifiable affront to individual rights.

As for chicken hawks, yes, they are ironic, and yes, they are vile, but far worse is the atavist who assumes the right to compel another through force.

I was not referring to you as a chicken hawk, or a hawk of any kind.

I waffle on compulsory service. Yes, i understand it takes away certain freedom. But, it creates an even playing field, in that the military isn't made up of mostly poor disadvantaged people fighting for the rights of the better off. Also, it gives everyone a respect and connection to actually waging a war.
Balance that against limiting your freedom more. We are not completely free, so it is not all or nothing. It is a matter of degree.
