I have about 30 gigs or so of library that I need to transfer to my new laptop. How can I do this? It's not really feasible to buy the mountain of CD's it'd take to back up everything on. There's gotta' be an easier way.

Do you have your iTunes libraru synced with an iPod. If so, you can just use a recovery program to add everything on your iPod to your iTunes library on your new computer.

You can copy the files themselves from your old computer to the laptop if your computers are networked.
If you're getting rid of your old computer, you can pull out the hard drive, put it in an enclosure, and copy the files over manually using a usb cable.

Yeah I read online that I could get a program to copy over the files but I didn't feel like paying $20 for one.

I tried that over the wireless network but it's only sharing the library. It won't transfer the actual files over.

Oh yeah pc.
The ripped ones I'm not worried about because I have all my cds. Just the downloaded stuff and some files I had on napster that had transferred over to itunes.
Apparently anything purchased will transfer over from my ipod. I'm doing that now.

If your files are on an iPod then you can download Sharepod (http://www.softpedia.com/get/IPOD-TOOLS/Other-IPOD-tools-Updates/SharePod.shtml) (freeware) which will allow you to copy the files from the iPod onto your new machine. Works great.

There are a lot of programs similar to this.

Actually, you can transfer the files...you just have to make sure that you're logged in to itunes on both machines and have enabled sharing on both.

If you've got an external hard drive, try this:
1. Create a folder on the external hard drive. Call it "My Tranny Porn" or "Pete Townsend's Private Stash" or something.
2. In iTunes on the computer you want to get the music off of, go to Edit --> Preferences.
3. In the Advanced tab, change the iTunes Media Folder Library to the folder on the external hard drive.
4. Make sure that "Keep iTunes Media Folder Organized" and "Copy items to iTunes Media Folder" are checked.
5. Click on File > Organize Library.
6. In the dialog box that comes up, check both boxes. Click OK. Your iTunes library will be copied onto that external drive now.
7. Plug the external hard drive inot the new computer.
8. On the new computer, go to Edit --> Preferences, then Advanced, and make sure this media library is set to the default, and both "Keep iTunes Media Folder Organized" and "Copy Items to iTunes Media Folder" are checked.
9. Go to File > Add Folder to Library. Navigate to the folder ont he external hard drive.
10. Your music will now copy onto the new computer.
Kind of convoluted, I know, but follow these steps and soon you'll be watching your German Schiesse movies and listening to your Prussian Blue albums on your new computer in iTunes.

Yep. As long as you've updated iTunes in the last six months or so, you should be able to transfer the files.
